- We aim to measure the metallicity distribution and velocity distribution of red giant branch (RGB) stars along the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (Sgr) streams. Thanks to the large number of stars of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) sample, we can study the properties of streams as a function of the {LAMBDA}s from the Sgr core. Using the ~22000 RGB stars from the ninth data release of SDSS, we selected 1100 RGB stars belonging to the streams of the Sgr. As compared with red horizontal branch stars (Shi et al., 2012, Cat. J/ApJ/751/130) the RGB stars constitute a large sample size and extend to a metal-poor component of [Fe/H]~-3.0dex. In particular, this RGB sample has a significant number of stars in the second wrap of the leading stream of the Sgr (leading arm 2), and thus provides a good opportunity to understand the properties of the leading stream.

- Deep narrow- and broad-band near-infrared imaging observations of the central 2'x2' region of the SSA 22 field were made with the near-infrared camera (CISCO) attached to the Subaru Telescope. Using a narrow-band filter centered at 2.033{mu}m, [O III] {lambda}5007 emitters at z~3.06+/-0.02 were searched to examine star-forming activities in an over-density region where a clustering of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) and Lyman {alpha} emitter candidates around z=3.09 was reported, though the targeted redshift is slightly different from that of the peak of the over-density region. Although one emitter candidate at z=3.06 was detected, it is likely to be located at a redshift of between 1 and 2 judged based on multi-band photometry. Another emission-line object was detected in another narrow-band filter (``off band'' filter) centered at 2.120{mu}m, which is identified with a galaxy at z=0.132 (the emission line is Paschen {alpha}). The K'-band imaging data revealed the presence of 12 Extremely Red Objects (EROs) with I_814_-K'>=4. The distribution of the EROs does not seem to coincide with that of Lyman Break Galaxies or Lyman {alpha} emitters at z~3. The magnitudes and colors of the EROs are not consistent with those of passively evolving massive elliptical galaxies at z~3. Candidates for counterparts of the submm sources detected with SCUBA are found; no EROs around the submm sources are found in our magnitude limit.

- We present multicolour broad band (BVRI) photometry for a sample of 33 spiral-spiral (S+S) binary galaxies drawn from the Karachentsev Catalogue of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies (KPG, Cat. <VII/77>). The data is part of a joint observational programme devoted to systematic photometric study of one of the most complete and homogeneous pair samples available in the literature. We present azimuthally averaged colour and surface brightness profiles, colour index (B-I) maps, B band and sharp/filtered B band images as well as integrated magnitudes, magnitudes at different circular apertures and integrated colours for each pair. Internal and external data comparisons show consistency within the estimated errors. Two thirds of the sample have total aperture parameters homogeneously derived for the first time. After reevaluating morphology for all the pairs, we find a change in Hubble type for 24 galaxies compared to the original POSS classifications. More than half of our pairs show morphological concordance which could explain, in part, the strong correlation in the (B-V) colour indices (Holmberg Effect) between pair components. We find a tendency for barred galaxies to show grand design morphologies and flat colour profiles. The measurements will be used in a series of forthcoming papers where we try to identify and isolate the main structural and photometric properties of disk galaxies at different stages of interaction.

- The Spitzer South Pole Telescope Deep Field (SSDF) is a wide-area survey using Spitzer's Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) to cover 94deg^2^ of extragalactic sky, making it the largest IRAC survey completed to date outside the Milky Way midplane. The SSDF is centered at ({alpha},{delta})=(23:30, -55:00), in a region that combines observations spanning a broad wavelength range from numerous facilities. These include millimeter imaging from the South Pole Telescope (SPT), far-infrared observations from Herschel/SPIRE, X-ray observations from the XMM XXL survey, near-infrared observations from the VISTA Hemisphere Survey, and radio-wavelength imaging from the Australia Telescope Compact Array, in a panchromatic project designed to address major outstanding questions surrounding galaxy clusters and the baryon budget. Here we describe the Spitzer/IRAC observations of the SSDF, including the survey design, observations, processing, source extraction, and publicly available data products. In particular, we present two band-merged catalogs, one for each of the two warm IRAC selection bands. They contain roughly 5.5 and 3.7 million distinct sources, the vast majority of which are galaxies, down to the SSDF 5{sigma} sensitivity limits of 19.0 and 18.2 Vega mag (7.0 and 9.4uJy) at 3.6 and 4.5um, respectively.

- The relation between galaxy stellar mass and gas-phase metallicity is a sensitive diagnostic of the main processes that drive galaxy evolution, namely cosmological gas inflow, metal production in stars, and gas outflow via galactic winds. We employed the direct method to measure the metallicities of ~200000 star-forming galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey that were stacked in bins of (1) stellar mass and (2) both stellar mass and star formation rate (SFR) to significantly enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of the weak [OIII]{lambda}4363 and [OII]{lambda}{lambda}7320,7330 auroral lines required to apply the direct method. These metallicity measurements span three decades in stellar mass from log(M_*_/M_{sun}_)=7.4-10.5, which allows the direct method mass-metallicity relation to simultaneously capture the high-mass turnover and extend a full decade lower in mass than previous studies that employed more uncertain strong line methods. The direct method mass-metallicity relation rises steeply at low mass (O/H{prop.to}M_*_^1/2^) until it turns over at log(M_*_/M_{sun}_)=8.9 and asymptotes to 12+log(O/H)=8.8 at high mass. The direct method mass-metallicity relation has a steeper slope, a lower turnover mass, and a factor of two to three greater dependence on SFR than strong line mass-metallicity relations. Furthermore, the SFR-dependence appears monotonic with stellar mass, unlike strong line mass-metallicity relations. We also measure the N/O abundance ratio, an important tracer of star formation history, and find the clear signature of primary and secondary nitrogen enrichment. N/O correlates tightly with oxygen abundance, and even more so with stellar mass.

- We present an overview of the Space Telescope A901/2 Galaxy Evolution Survey (STAGES). STAGES is a multiwavelength project designed to probe physical drivers of galaxy evolution across a wide range of environments and luminosity. A complex multicluster system at z~0.165 has been the subject of an 80-orbit F606W Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) mosaic covering the full 0.5x0.5deg^2^ (~5x5Mpc^2^) span of the supercluster. Extensive multiwavelength observations with XMM-Newton, GALEX, Spitzer, 2dF, Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and the 17-band COMBO-17 photometric redshift survey complement the HST imaging. Our survey goals include simultaneously linking galaxy morphology with other observables such as age, star formation rate, nuclear activity and stellar mass. In addition, with the multiwavelength data set and new high-resolution mass maps from gravitational lensing, we are able to disentangle the large-scale structure of the system. By examining all aspects of an environment we will be able to evaluate the relative importance of the dark matter haloes, the local galaxy density and the hot X-ray gas in driving galaxy transformation.

- At high redshift, starburst galaxies present irregular morphologies, with 10-20% of their star formation occurring in giant clumps. These clumpy galaxies are considered to be the progenitors of local disk galaxies. To understand the properties of starbursts at intermediate and low redshift, it is fundamental to track their evolution and possible link with the systems at higher z. We present an extensive, systematic, and multi-band search and analysis of the starburst galaxies at redshift (0<z<0.5) in the COSMOS field, as well as detailed characteristics of their star-forming clumps by using Hubble Space Telescope/Advance Camera for Surveys (HST/ACS) images. The starburst galaxies are identified using a tailor-made intermediate-band color excess selection, tracing the simultaneous presence of H{alpha} and [OIII] emission lines in the galaxies. Our methodology uses previous information from the zCOSMOS spectral database to calibrate the color excess as a function of the equivalent width of both spectral lines. This technique allows us to identify 220 starburst galaxies at redshift 0<z<0.5 using the SUBARU intermediate-band filters. Combining the high spatial resolution images from the HST/ACS with ground-based multi-wavelength photometry we identify and parametrize the star-forming clumps in every galaxy. Their principal properties, sizes, masses, and star formation rates are provided.

- This paper reports a study of the effect of a bar on the neutral hydrogen (HI) content of starburst and Seyfert galaxies. We also make comparisons with a sample of "normal" galaxies and investigate how well starburst and Seyfert galaxies follow the fundamental scaling Tully-Fisher (TF) relation defined for normal galaxies. 111 Markarian (Mrk) IRAS galaxies were observed with the Nancay radiotelescope, and HI data were obtained for 80 galaxies, of which 64 are new detections. We determined the (20 and 50%) linewidths, the maximum velocity of rotation and total HI flux for each galaxy. These measurements are complemented by data from the literature to form a sample of Mrk IRAS (74% starburst, 23% Seyfert and 3% unknown) galaxies containing 105 unbarred and 113 barred ones. Barred galaxies have lower total and bias-corrected HI masses than unbarred galaxies, and this is true for both Mrk IRAS and normal galaxies. This robust result suggests that bars funnel the HI gas toward the center of the galaxy where it becomes molecular before forming new stars. The Mrk IRAS galaxies have higher bias-corrected HI masses than normal galaxies. They also show significant departures from the TF relation, both in the B and K bands. The most deviant points from the TF relation tend to have a strong far-infrared luminosity and a low oxygen abundance. These results suggest that a fraction of our Mrk IRAS galaxies are still in the process of formation, and that their neutral HI gas, partly of external origin, has not yet reached a stationary state.

- A summary of starburst luminosities based on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) features is given for 243 starburst galaxies with 0<z<2.5, observed with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph. Luminosity {nu}L_{nu}_(7.7um) for the peak luminosity of the 7.7um PAH emission feature is found to scale as log[{nu}L_{nu}_(7.7{mu}m)]=44.63(+/-0.09)+2.48(+/-0.28)log(1+z) for the most luminous starbursts observed. Empirical calibrations of {nu}L_{nu}_(7.7um) are used to determine bolometric luminosity L_IR_ and the star formation rate (SFR) for these starbursts. The most luminous starbursts found in this sample have logL_IR_=45.4(+/-0.3)+2.5(+/-0.3)log(1+z), in ergs/s, and the maximum star formation rates for starbursts in units of M_{sun}_/yr are log(SFR)=2.1(+/-0.3)+2.5(+/-0.3)log(1+z), up to z=2.5. The exponent for pure luminosity evolution agrees with optical and radio studies of starbursts but is flatter than previous results based in infrared source counts. The maximum star formation rates are similar to the maxima determined for submillimeter galaxies; the most luminous individual starburst included within the sample has logL_IR_=46.9, which gives an SFR=3.4x10^3^M_{sun}/yr. Description: In this paper, we assemble data from 14 different Spitzer/IRS (InfraRed Spectrograph) programs (listed in "Ref" column of table1) to summarize a wide variety of sources having strong PAH spectral features, providing a total of 243 sources.
