- The infrared (IR) emission of dust heated by stars provides critical information for galaxy evolution studies. Unfortunately, observations are often limited to the mid-IR, making templates a necessity. Previously published templates were based on small samples of luminous galaxies, which are not necessarily representative of normal star-forming galaxies. We constructed new-generation dust templates, including instrument-specific relations and software tools that facilitate the estimation of the total IR (TIR) luminosity as well as obscured and unobscured star formation rate (SFR) based on one or several fluxes up to z=4. For the first time, the templates include a dependence on both TIR luminosity and the specific SFR (sSFR), thereby increasing their reliability and utility for a wide range of galaxies. We also provide formulae for calculating TIR luminosities and SFR from JWST F2100W observations at 0<z<2. Our templates are based on 2584 normal star-forming galaxies spanning a wide range of stellar mass and sSFR, including sSFRs typical at higher redshifts. IR spectra and properties were obtained using cigale and the physically motivated Draine & Li (2007ApJ...657..810D) dust models. The photometry from the GALEX-SDSS-WISE Legacy Catalog was supplemented with 2MASS and Herschel-ATLAS, up to 19 bands from FUV to 500um. The shape of the dust spectrum varies with TIR luminosity, but also independently with sSFR. Remarkably precise estimates of the dust luminosity are possible with a single band over the rest-frame 12-17um and 55-130um. We validate single-band estimates on diverse populations, including local luminous IR galaxies, and find no significant systematic errors. Using two or more bands simultaneously yields the unbiased estimation of the TIR luminosity, even of star-forming dwarfs. We obtain fresh insights regarding the interplay between monochromatic IR luminosities, spectral shapes, and physical properties, and we constructed new templates and estimators of the dust luminosity and SFR. We provide software for generating templates and estimating these quantities based on 1-4 bands from WISE, JWST, Spitzer, and Herschel, up to z=4.

- We present the result of a wide-field survey of globular clusters (GCs) in M31 covering a 3{deg}x3{deg} field centered on M31. We have searched for GCs on CCD images taken with Washington CMT1 filters at the KPNO 0.9m telescope using the following steps: (1) inspection of morphological parameters given by the SExtractor package such as stellarity, full width at half-maximum, and ellipticity; (2) consulting the spectral types and radial velocities obtained from spectra taken with the Hydra spectrograph at the WIYN 3.5m telescope; and (3) visual inspection of the images of each object. We have found 1164 GCs and GC candidates, of which 605 are newly found GCs and GC candidates and 559 are previously known GCs. Among the new objects there are 113 genuine GCs, 258 probable GCs, and 234 possible GCs, according to our classification criteria. Among the known objects there are 383 genuine GCs, 109 probable GCs, and 67 possible GCs. In total there are 496 genuine GCs, 367 probable GCs, and 301 possible GCs. Most of these newly found GCs have T1 magnitudes of 17.5-19.5mag [17.9<V<19.9mag assuming (C-T1)~1.5], and (C-T1) colors in range 1-2.

- We present the results of a new search for galaxy-scale strong lensing systems in CFHTLS Wide. Our lens-finding technique involves a preselection of potential lens galaxies, applying simple cuts in size and magnitude. We then perform a Principal Component Analysis of the galaxy images, ensuring a clean removal of the light profile. Lensed features are searched for in the residual images using the clustering topometric algorithm DBSCAN. We find 1098 lens candidates that we inspect visually, leading to a cleaned sample of 109 new lens candidates. Using realistic image simulations we estimate the completeness of our sample and show that it is independent of source surface brightness, Einstein ring size (image separation) or lens redshift. We compare the properties of our sample to previous lens searches in CFHTLS. Including the present search, the total number of lenses found in CFHTLS amounts to 678, which corresponds to ~4 lenses per square degree down to i(AB)=24.8. This is equivalent to ~60.000 lenses in total in a survey as wide as Euclid, but at the CFHTLS resolution and depth.

- Using the HST archives, we have searched portions of the southern half and northwest quarter of the Andromeda Galaxy (M 31, NGC 224) for previously unrecognized star clusters. The result is a table of the characteristics of 71 newly identified star clusters. Most are moderately faint, low-mass clusters. Absolute magnitudes range from M(V)=-6.3 to -2.5.

- We present integrated photometry and color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) for 161 star clusters in M33, of which 115 were previously uncataloged, using the Advanced Camera For Surveys Wide Field Channel onboard the Hubble Space Telescope. The integrated V-band magnitudes of these clusters range from M_V_~-9 to as faint as M_V_~-4, extending the depth of the existing M33 cluster catalogs by ~1mag. Comparisons of theoretical isochrones to the CMDs using the Padova models yield ages for 148 of these star clusters. The ages range from log(t)~7.0 to log(t)~9.0. Our CMDs are not sensitive to clusters older than ~1Gyr. We find that the variation of the clusters' integrated colors and absolute magnitudes with age is consistent with the predictions of simple stellar population models. These same models suggest that the masses of the clusters in our sample range from 5x10^3^ to 5x10^4^M_{sun}_.

- Identification of new star cluster candidates in M 31 is fundamental for the study of the M 31 stellar cluster system. The machine-learning method convolutional neural network (CNN) is an efficient algorithm for searching for new M 31 star cluster candidates from tens of millions of images from wide-field photometric surveys. We search for new M 31 cluster candidates from the high-quality g- and i-band images of 21 245 632 sources obtained from the Pan-Andromeda Archaeological Survey (PAndAS) through a CNN. We collected confirmed M 31 clusters and noncluster objects from the literature as our training sample. Accurate double-channel CNNs were constructed and trained using the training samples. We applied the CNN classification models to the PAndAS g- and i-band images of over 21 million sources to search new M 31 cluster candidates. The CNN predictions were finally checked by five experienced human inspectors to obtain high-confidence M 31 star cluster candidates. After the inspection, we identified a catalogue of 117 new M 31 cluster candidates. Most of the new candidates are young clusters that are located in the M 31 disk. Their morphology, colours, and magnitudes are similar to those of the confirmed young disk clusters. We also identified eight globular cluster candidates that are located in the M 31 halo and exhibit features similar to those of confirmed halo globular clusters. The projected distances to the M 31 centre for three of them are larger than 100kpc.

- To increase completeness of the distance limited sample of nearby galaxies from the Kraan-Korteweg & Tammann (1979AN....300..181K) catalogue we undertook a search for small companions of larger known galaxies which have corrected radial velocities with in 500km/s. Based primarely on the POSS-II and ESO/SERC films we found 260 nearby dwarf galaxy candidates with angular diameters a>0.5arcmin. More than 50% of the objects were revealed for the first time. As we suppose, a significant part of them (about 30%) may really belong to the Local Volume sample.

- We present new planetary nebulae (PNe) positions, radial velocities and magnitudes for six early-type galaxies obtained with the Planetary Nebulae Spectrograph (PNS), along with derived two-dimensional velocity and velocity dispersion fields, and the {alpha} parameters (i.e. the number of PNe per unit luminosity). We also present new deep absorption-line long-slit kinematics for three galaxies in the sample, obtained with the FOcal Reducer and low dispersion Spectrograph (FORS2) at the Very Large Telescope (VLT).

- We have developed a new needlet-based method to detect point sources in cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps and have applied it to the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) 7 year data. We use both the individual frequency channels as well as internal templates, the latter being the difference between pairs of frequency channels and hence having the advantage that the CMB component is eliminated. Using the area of the sky outside the Kq85 galactic mask, we detect a total of 2102 point sources at the 5{sigma} level in either the frequency maps or the internal templates. Of these, 1116 are detected either at 5{sigma} directly in the frequency channels or at 5{sigma} in the internal templates and >=3{sigma} at the corresponding position in the frequency channels. Of the 1116 sources, 603 are detections that have not been reported so far in WMAP data. We have made a catalog of these sources available with position and flux estimated in the WMAP channels where they are seen. In total, we identified 1029 of the 1116 sources with counterparts at 5GHz and 69 at other frequencies.

- The mechanisms producing the diffuse radio emission in galaxy clusters, and in particular their connection with cluster mergers, are still debated. We seek to explore the internal dynamics of the cluster Abell 1758N, which has been shown to host a radio halo and two relics, and is known to be a merging bimodal cluster. Our analysis is mainly based on new redshift data for 137 galaxies acquired at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, only four of which have redshifts previously listed in the literature. We also used photometric data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope archive. We combined galaxy velocities and positions to select 92 cluster galaxies and analyzed the internal cluster dynamics.
