- Distances and near-infrared luminosities of the brightest galaxies in the Local Volume have been re-evaluated in order to gain a fully homogeneous collection of data for elucidating the framework of the Local Sheet and its relevance to Local Group evolution. It is demonstrated that the Local Sheet is both geometrically and dynamically distinct from the Local Supercluster and that the evolution of the Sheet and Local Group were probably interconnected. The Sheet is inclined by 8{deg} with respect to the Local Supercluster, and the dispersion of giant members about the mid-plane is only 230kpc. A 'Council of Giants' with a radius of 3.75Mpc encompasses the Local Group, demarcating a clear upper limit to the realm of influence of the Local Group. The only two giant elliptical galaxies in the Sheet sit on opposite sides of the Council, raising the possibility that they have somehow shepherded the evolution of the Local Group. The position vector of the Andromeda galaxy with respect to the Milky Way deviates only 11{deg} from the Sheet plane and only 11{deg} from the projected axis of the ellipticals. The Local Group appears to be moving away from a ridge in the potential surface of the Council on a path parallel to the elliptical axis. Spin directions of the giants in the Council are distributed over the sky in a pattern which is very different from that of giants beyond, possibly in reaction to the central mass asymmetry that developed into the Local Group. By matching matter densities of Group and Council giants, the edge of the volume of space most likely to have contributed to the development of the Local Group is shown to be very close to where gravitational forces from the Local Group and the Council balance. The boundary specification reveals that the Local Sheet formed out of a density perturbation of very low amplitude (~10%), but that normal matter was incorporated into galaxies with relatively high efficiency (~40%). It appears that the development of the giants of the Local Sheet was guided by a pre-existing flattened framework of matter.

- We present a catalog of star clusters with V_F555W_<23mag detected in the interacting spiral galaxy M51 system based on mosaic images taken with the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys by the Hubble Heritage Team. We have selected about 3600 clusters based on their morphological information through visual inspection. The final star cluster catalog includes 2224 clusters that are relatively well isolated and have a circular shape.

- We present the results of a study on galaxy interactions, tides, and other processes that produce luminous fine-scale substructures in the galaxy clusters: Coma, Perseus, Abell 2199, AWM 3, and AWM 5. All unusual structures in these clusters can be categorized into seven morphologies: interacting galaxies, multiple galaxies (noninteracting), distorted galaxies, tailed galaxies, line galaxies, dwarf galaxy groups, and galaxy aggregates. The various morphologies are described, and a catalog is presented, of 248 objects in these five clusters along with color, and positional information obtained from CCD images taken with the WIYN 3.5 m telescope in broadband B and R filters.

- A visual examination of the images from the Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIMPSE) has revealed 322 partial and closed rings that we propose represent partially or fully enclosed three-dimensional bubbles. We argue that the bubbles are primarily formed by hot young stars in massive star formation regions. We have found an average of about 1.5 bubbles per square degree. About 25% of the bubbles coincide with known radio HII regions, and about 13% enclose known star clusters. It appears that B4B9 stars (too cool to produce detectable radio HII regions) probably produce about three-quarters of the bubbles in our sample, and the remainder are produced by young OB3 stars that produce detectable radio HII regions.

- We report 269 mid-infrared bubbles within 10{deg} of the Galactic center from visual inspection of the Spitzer GLIMPSE II Legacy Science program images. The surface density of bubbles is ~5deg^-2^ or about 3 times that detected in longitudes |l|=10{deg}-65{deg}, because the inner 10{deg} of longitude were more thoroughly searched for small bubbles. There is a gradient in the number of bubbles with longitude with an increase of about a factor of 2 from 2{deg} to 10{deg}; this is probably the result of several factors, including decreasing diffuse background brightness, confusion, and opacity with longitude. Bubble eccentricities are typically between 0.6 and 0.8, and >50% show evidence for blowouts, which we suggest result from local density fluctuations of the ISM and/or anisotropic stellar winds and radiation fields.

- We have performed 2D bulge/bar/disc decompositions using g, r and i-band images of a representative sample of nearly 1000 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We show that the Petrosian concentration index is a better proxy for the bulge-to-total ratio than the global Sersic index. We show that pseudo-bulges can be distinguished from classical bulges as outliers in the Kormendy relation. We provide the structural parameters and distributions of stellar masses of ellipticals, classical bulges, pseudo-bulges, discs and bars, and find that 32% of the total stellar mass in massive galaxies in the local universe is contained in ellipticals, 36% in discs, 25% in classical bulges, 3% in pseudo-bulges and 4% in bars.

- We explore the internal structure of red-sequence galaxies in the Coma cluster across a wide range of luminosities (-17>M_g_>-22) and cluster-centric radii (0<r_cluster_<1.3r_200_). We present the 2D bulge-disc decomposition of galaxies in deep Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope u, g, i imaging using GALFIT. Rigorous filtering is applied to identify an analysis sample of 200 galaxies which are well described by an 'archetypal' S0 structure (central bulge + outer disc).

- We perform two-dimensional, point-spread-function-convolved, bulge+disk decompositions in the g and r bandpasses on a sample of 1123718 galaxies from the Legacy area of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Seven. Four different decomposition procedures are investigated which make improvements to sky background determinations and object deblending over the standard SDSS procedures that lead to more robust structural parameters and integrated galaxy magnitudes and colors, especially in crowded environments. We use a set of science-based quality assurance metrics, namely, the disk luminosity-size relation, the galaxy color-magnitude diagram, and the galaxy central (fiber) colors to show the robustness of our structural parameters. The best procedure utilizes simultaneous, two-bandpass decompositions. Bulge and disk photometric errors remain below 0.1mag down to bulge and disk magnitudes of g~19 and r~18.5. We also use and compare three different galaxy fitting models: a pure Sersic model, an n_b_=4 bulge+disk model, and a Sersic (free n_b_) bulge+disk model. The most appropriate model for a given galaxy is determined by the F-test probability. All three catalogs of measured structural parameters, rest-frame magnitudes, and colors are publicly released here.

- We investigate scaling relations of bulges using bulge-disk decompositions at 3.6um and present bulge classifications for 173 E-Sd galaxies within 20Mpc. Pseudobulges and classical bulges are identified using Sersic index, Hubble Space Telescope morphology, and star formation activity (traced by 8um emission). In the near-IR pseudobulges have n_b_<2 and classical bulges have n_b_>2, as found in the optical. Sersic index and morphology are essentially equivalent properties for bulge classification purposes. We confirm, using a much more robust sample, that the Sersic index of pseudobulges is uncorrelated with other bulge structural properties, unlike for classical bulges and elliptical galaxies. Also, the half-light radius of pseudobulges is not correlated with any other bulge property. We also find a new correlation between surface brightness and pseudobulge luminosity; pseudobulges become more luminous as they become more dense.

- Using all data in the literature on multiaperture photometry in B and V bands for 237 galaxies, a list of candidates for galaxies with chemically distinct nuclei is compiled. Twenty-five to 50 percent of galaxies with morphological types from E to Sb are found to be such candidates.
