- Brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) are believed to have assembled most of their stars early in time and therefore should be passively evolving at low redshifts and appear "red-and-dead." However, there have been reports that a minority of low-redshift BCGs still have ongoing star formation rates (SFRs) of a few to even ~100M_{sun}_/yr. Such BCGs are found in "cool-core" ("CC") clusters, and their star formation is thought to be fueled by "cooling flow." To further investigate the implications of low-redshift, star-forming BCGs, we perform a systematic search using the 22{mu}m data ("W4" band) from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) on the GMBCG catalog, which contains 55424 BCGs at 0.1<~z<~0.55 identified in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Our sample consists of 389 BCGs that are bright in W4 ("W4BCGs"), most being brighter than 5mJy. While some (<~20%) might host active galactic nuclei, most W4BCGs should owe their strong mid-IR emissions to dust-enshrouded star formation. Their median total IR luminosity (L_IR_) is 5x10^11^L_{sun}_ (SFR~50M_{sun}_/yr), and 27% of the whole sample has L_IR_>10^12^L_{sun}_ (SFR>100M_{sun}_/yr). Using 10 W4BCGs that have Chandra X-ray data, we show that 7 of them are possibly in CC clusters. However, in most cases (five out of seven) the mass deposition rate cannot account for the observed SFR. This casts doubt on the idea that cooling flows are the cause of the star formation in non-quiescent BCGs.

- The study of absorptions along the lines of sight to bright high-z QSOs is an invaluable cosmological tool that provides a wealth of information on the inter-/circum-galactic medium, dark matter, primordial elements, reionization, fundamental constants, and general relativity. Unfortunately, the number of bright (i<~18) QSOs at z>~2 in the southern hemisphere is much lower than that in the north, due to the lack of wide multiwavelength surveys at decl. {delta}<0{deg}, hampering the effectiveness of observations from southern observatories. In this work we present a new method based on Canonical Correlation Analysis to identify such objects, taking advantage of a number of available databases: Skymapper, Gaia DR2, WISE, and 2MASS. Our QSO candidate sample lists 1476 sources with i<18 over 12400deg^2^ in the southern hemisphere. With a preliminary campaign we observed spectroscopically 69 of them, confirming 54 new bright QSOs at z>2.5, corresponding to a success rate of our method of ~80%. Furthermore, we estimate a completeness of ~90% of our sample at completion of our observation campaign. The new QSOs confirmed by this first and the forthcoming campaigns (QUBRICS survey) will be the targets of subsequent studies using higher resolution spectrographs, like ESPRESSO, UVES, and (in the long term) ELT/HIRES.

- New photometric and spectroscopic observations of galaxies in the directions of three distant clusters are presented as part of our ongoing high-redshift cluster survey. The clusters are Cl 1324+3011 at z=0.76, Cl 1604+4304 at z=0.90, and Cl 1604+4321 at z=0.92. We have spectroscopically confirmed cluster membership for 2040 galaxies in each system and have also obtained spectra for over 280 field galaxies spanning the range 0<z<2.5.

- We present the multiwavelength ultraviolet to mid-infrared catalog of the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Ultra-Deep Survey field observed as part of the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS). Based on publicly available data, the catalog includes the CANDELS data from the Hubble Space Telescope (near-infrared WFC3 F125W and F160W data and visible ACS F606W and F814W data); u-band data from CFHT/Megacam; B, V, Rc, i', and z' band data from Subaru/Suprime-Cam; Y and Ks band data from VLT/HAWK-I; J, H, and K band data from UKIDSS (Data Release 8); and Spitzer/IRAC data (3.6, 4.5um from SEDS; 5.8 and 8.0um from SpUDS). The present catalog is F160W-selected and contains 35932 sources over an area of 201.7arcmin^2^ and includes radio- and X-ray-detected sources and spectroscopic redshifts available for 210 sources.

- We present a 0.4-8{mu}m multi-wavelength photometric catalog in the Extended Groth Strip (EGS) field. This catalog is built on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFC3 and ACS data from the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS), and it incorporates the existing HST data from the All-wavelength Extended Groth strip International Survey (AEGIS) and the 3D-HST program. The catalog is based on detections in the F160W band reaching a depth of F160W=26.62 AB (90% completeness, point sources). It includes the photometry for 41457 objects over an area of ~206arcmin^2^ in the following bands: HST/ACS F606W and F814W; HST WFC3 F125W, F140W, and F160W; Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT)/Megacam u*, g' , r', i' and z'; CFHT/WIRCAM J, H, and K_S_; Mayall/NEWFIRM J1, J2, J3, H1, H2, and K; Spitzer IRAC 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0{mu}m. We are also releasing value-added catalogs that provide robust photometric redshifts and stellar mass measurements.

- We present new observations of the field containing the z=3.786 protocluster PC 217.96+32.3. We confirm that it is one of the largest known and most overdense high-redshift structures. Such structures are rare even in the largest cosmological simulations. We used the Mayall/MOSAIC1.1 imaging camera to image a 1.2x0.6{deg} area (~150x75 comoving Mpc) surrounding the protocluster's core and discovered 165 candidate Ly{alpha} emitting galaxies (LAEs) and 788 candidate Lyman Break galaxies (LBGs). There are at least two overdense regions traced by the LAEs, the largest of which shows an areal overdensity in its core (i.e., within a radius of 2.5 comoving Mpc) of 14+/-7 relative to the average LAE spatial density (\bar{rho}) in the imaged field. Further, \bar{rho} is twice that derived by other field LAE surveys. Spectroscopy with Keck/DEIMOS yielded redshifts for 164 galaxies (79 LAEs and 85 LBGs); 65 lie at a redshift of 3.785+/-0.010. The velocity dispersion of galaxies near the core is {sigma}=350+/-40km/s, a value robust to selection effects. The overdensities are likely to collapse into systems with present-day masses of >10^15^M_{sun}_ and >6x10^14^M_{sun}_. The low velocity dispersion may suggest a dynamically young protocluster. We find a weak trend between narrow-band (Ly{alpha}) luminosity and environmental density: the Ly{alpha} luminosity is enhanced on average by 1.35x within the protocluster core. There is no evidence that the Ly{alpha} equivalent width depends on environment. These suggest that star formation and/or active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity is enhanced in the higher-density regions of the structure. PC 217.96+32.3 is a Coma cluster analog, witnessed in the process of formation.

- This paper presents a catalog of 312 X-ray selected BL Lacertae objects (XBLs), optically identified through the end of 2011. It contains the names from different surveys, equatorial coordinates, redshifts, multifrequency flux values, and luminosities for each source. In addition, the different characteristics of XBLs are statistically investigated (redshift, radio/optical/X-ray luminosities, central black hole (BH) mass, synchrotron peak frequency, broadband spectral indices, optical flux variability). Their values are collected through an extensive bibliographic and database search or calculated by us. The redshifts range from 0.031 to 0.702 with a maximum of the distribution at z=0.223. The 1.4GHz luminosities of XBLs log{nu}L_{nu}_~39-42erg/s while optical V and X-ray 0.1-2.4keV bands show log{nu}L_{nu}_~43-46erg/s. The XBL hosts are elliptical galaxies with effective radii r_eff_=3.26-25.40kpc and ellipticities, {epsilon}=0.04-0.52. Their R-band absolute magnitudes M_R_ range from -21.11mag to -24.86mag with a mean value of -22.83mag. The V-R indices of the hosts span from 0.61 to 1.52 and reveal a fourth-degree polynomial relationship with z that enables us to evaluate the redshifts of five sources whose V-R indices were determined from the observations but whose redshifts values are either not found or not confirmed. The XBL nuclei show a wider range of 7.31mag for M_R_ with the highest luminosity corresponding to M_R_=-27.24mag. The masses of central BHs are found in the interval logM_BH_=7.39-9.30 solar masses (with distribution maximum at logM_BH_/M_{sun}_=8.30). The synchrotron peak frequencies are spread over the range log{nu}_peak_=14.56-19.18Hz with a peak of the distribution at log{nu}_peak_=16.60Hz. The broadband radio-to-optical ({alpha}_ro_), optical-to-X-ray ({alpha}_ox_), and radio-to-X-ray ({alpha}_rx_) spectral indices are distributed in the intervals (0.17,0.59), (0.56,1.48), and (0.41,0.75), respectively. In the optical energy range, the overall flux variability increases, on average, towards shorter wavelengths: <{Delta}m>=1.22,1.50, and 1.82mag through the R, V, B bands of Johnson-Cousins system, respectively. XBLs seem be optically less variable at the intranight timescales compared to the radio-selected BL Lacs (RBLs).

- We present the catalog of optical and infrared counterparts of the Chandra COSMOS-Legacy Survey, a 4.6Ms Chandra program on the 2.2deg^2^ of the COSMOS field, combination of 56 new overlapping observations obtained in Cycle 14 with the previous C-COSMOS survey. In this Paper we report the i, K, and 3.6{mu}m identifications of the 2273 X-ray point sources detected in the new Cycle 14 observations. We use the likelihood ratio technique to derive the association of optical/infrared (IR) counterparts for 97% of the X-ray sources. We also update the information for the 1743 sources detected in C-COSMOS, using new K and 3.6{mu}m information not available when the C-COSMOS analysis was performed. The final catalog contains 4016 X-ray sources, 97% of which have an optical/IR counterpart and a photometric redshift, while ~54% of the sources have a spectroscopic redshift. The full catalog, including spectroscopic and photometric redshifts and optical and X-ray properties described here in detail, is available online. We study several X-ray to optical (X/O) properties: with our large statistics we put better constraints on the X/O flux ratio locus, finding a shift toward faint optical magnitudes in both soft and hard X-ray band. We confirm the existence of a correlation between X/O and the the 2-10keV luminosity for Type 2 sources. We extend to low luminosities the analysis of the correlation between the fraction of obscured AGNs and the hard band luminosity, finding a different behavior between the optically and X-ray classified obscured fraction.

- We present a new, ambitious survey performed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory of the 9.3deg^2^ Bootes field of the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey. The wide field probes a statistically representative volume of the universe at high redshift. The Chandra Deep Wide-field Survey exploits the excellent sensitivity and angular resolution of Chandra over a wide area, combining 281 observations spanning 15yr, for a total exposure time of 3.4Ms, and detects 6891 X-ray point sources down to limiting fluxes of 4.7x10^-16^, 1.5x10^-16^, and 9x10^-16^erg/cm^2^/s in the 0.5-7, 0.5-2, and 2-7keV bands, respectively. The robustness and reliability of the detection strategy are validated through extensive, state-of-the-art simulations of the whole field. Accurate number counts, in good agreement with previous X-ray surveys, are derived thanks to the uniquely large number of point sources detected, which resolve 65.0%+/-12.8% of the cosmic X-ray background between 0.5 and 2keV and 81.0%+/-11.5% between 2 and 7keV. Exploiting the wealth of multiwavelength data available on the field, we assign redshifts to ~94% of the X-ray sources, estimate their obscuration, and derive absorption-corrected luminosities.

- We present the Census of the Local Universe (CLU) narrowband survey to search for emission-line (H{alpha}) galaxies. CLU-H{alpha} has imaged ~3{pi} of the sky (26470deg^2^) with four narrowband filters that probe a distance out to 200Mpc. We have obtained spectroscopic follow-up for galaxy candidates in 14 preliminary fields (101.6deg^2^) to characterize the limits and completeness of the survey. In these preliminary fields, CLU can identify emission lines down to an H{alpha} flux limit of 10^-14^erg/s/cm^2^ at 90% completeness, and recovers 83% (67%) of the H{alpha} flux from cataloged galaxies in our search volume at the {Sigma}=2.5 ({Sigma}=5) color excess levels. The contamination from galaxies with no emission lines is 61% (12%) for {Sigma}=2.5 ({Sigma}=5). Also, in the regions of overlap between our preliminary fields and previous emission-line surveys, we recover the majority of the galaxies found in previous surveys and identify an additional ~300 galaxies. In total, we find 90 galaxies with no previous distance information, several of which are interesting objects: 7 blue compact dwarfs, 1 green pea, and a Seyfert galaxy; we also identify a known planetary nebula. These objects show that the CLU-H{alpha} survey can be a discovery machine for objects in our own Galaxy and extreme galaxies out to intermediate redshifts. However, the majority of the CLU-H{alpha} galaxies identified in this work show properties consistent with normal star-forming galaxies. CLU-H{alpha} galaxies with new redshifts will be added to existing galaxy catalogs to focus the search for the electromagnetic counterpart to gravitational wave events.
