- HST UBVI photometry of NGC 3081 inner regions
- Short Name:

- Date:

- Publisher:

- Description:
- We present Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 images of the inner regions of NGC 3081, an absolute magnitude M_B_=-20.0 early-type barred spiral having four well-defined resonance rings: a nuclear ring, an inner ring, an outer R_1_ ring, and an outer R'_2_ pseudoring. Here we focus on a photometric study of the inner ring, a feature likely associated with an inner 4:1 resonance near the ends of the bar. The ring is notable for its high contrast and sharp definition, which is due to a significant degree of active star formation. The ring is also notable for its significant intrinsic elongation and parallel alignment with the bar.

- Description:
- We present the galaxy-galaxy angular correlations as a function of photometric redshift in a deep, wide galaxy survey centered on the Hubble Deep Field-South (HDF-S). Images were obtained with the Big Throughput Camera on the Blanco 4-m telescope at CTIO, of 1/2 square degree in broadband uBVRI, reaching ~24mag. Approximately 40,000 galaxies are detected in the survey. We determine photometric redshifts using galaxy template fitting to the photometry.

- Ic photometry of IC 348
- Short Name:
- J/MNRAS/358/341
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present a photometric study of I-band variability in the young cluster IC 348. The main purpose of the study was to identify periodic stars. In all, we find 50 periodic stars, of which 32 were previously unknown. For the first time in IC 348, we discover periods in significant numbers of lower-mass stars (M<0.25M_{sun}_) and classical T Tauri stars.

- Imaging of high-redshift Lyman alpha emitters

- Description:
- We present results of our intermediate-band optical imaging survey for high-z Ly{alpha} emitters (LAEs) using the prime focus camera, Suprime-Cam, on the 8.2m Subaru telescope. In our survey, we used eleven filters: four broad-band filters (B, R_C_, i', and z') and seven intermediate-band filters covering from 500nm to 720nm. We call this imaging program the Mahoroba-11. The seven intermediate-band filters were selected from a series of IA filters, which is the Suprime-Cam intermediate-band filter system, whose spectral resolution is R=23. Our survey was made in a 34'x27' sky area in the Subaru XMM-Newton Deep Survey Field. We found 409 IA-excess objects, which provided us with a large photometric sample of strong emission-line objects. Applying the photometric redshift method to this sample, we obtained a new sample of 198 LAE candidates at 3<z<5. We found no evidence for evolutions of the number density and the star-formation rate density (SFRD) for LAEs with logL(Ly{alpha})(erg/s)>42.67 between z~3 and z~5.

- Improved properties for cool stars
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/119/1448

- Publisher:

- Description:
- We present new grids of colors and bolometric corrections for F-K stars having 4000 K {<=} Teff {<=} 6500 K, 0.0 {<=} log(g) {<=} 4.5, and -3.0 {<=} [Fe/H] {<=} 0.0. Colors are tabulated for Johnson U-V and B-V, Cousins V-R and V-I, Johnson-Glass V-K, J-K, and H-K, and CIT/CTIO V-K, J-K, H-K, and CO. We have developed these color-temperature relations by convolving synthetic spectra with the best-determined, photometric filter transmission profiles. The synthetic spectra have been computed with the SSG spectral synthesis code (Bell & Gustafsson 1978; Gustafsson & Bell 1979) using MARCS stellar atmosphere models (Gustafsson et al. 1975; Bell et al. 1976) as input. Both of these codes have been improved substantially, especially at low temperatures, through the incorporation of new opacity data. The resulting synthetic colors have been put onto the observational systems by applying color calibrations derived from models and photometry of field stars that have effective temperatures determined by the infrared flux method. These color calibrations have zero points that change most of the original synthetic colors by less than 0.02 mag, and the corresponding slopes generally alter the colors by less than 5%.

- KH 15D (V582 Mon) VI light curves
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/140/2025
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Photometry of the unique pre-main-sequence binary system KH 15D is presented, spanning the years 2005-2010. This system has exhibited photometric variations and eclipses over the last ~50 years that are attributed to the effect of a precessing circumbinary disk. Advancement of the occulting edge across the projection on the sky of the binary orbit has continued and the photospheres of both stars are now completely obscured at all times. The system has thus transitioned to a state in which it should be visible only by scattered light, and yet it continues to show a periodic variation on the orbital cycle with an amplitude exceeding 2mag.

- Description:
- BD+42 2782 was recently discovered to be a variable star with a W UMa-type, eclipsing-binary light curve. We have obtained the first photoelectric light curves (R_C_, I_C_) and also the first radial velocity curves for this binary.

- Light curves of V838 Mon and V4332 Sgr
- Short Name:
- J/AZh/84/147
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We analyze spectra of V838 Mon and V4332 Sgr taken in 2004-2005 using the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory with the UAGS and SCORPIO spectrographs. We conclude based on spectroscopy combined with archive photographs and modern CCD photometry that both peculiar red novae were binaries prior to their outbursts, and contained blue hot components that exploded. The secondary of V838 Mon is a hot B3V star, and that of V4332 Sgr is a cool M7 star.

- LkH{alpha} 101 and the young cluster in NGC 1579
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/128/1233
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The central region of the dark cloud L1482 is illuminated by LkH{alpha} 101, a heavily reddened (A_V_~10mag) high-luminosity (>=8x10^3^L_Sun_) star having an unusual emission-line spectrum plus a featureless continuum. About 35 much fainter (mostly between R=16 and >21) H{alpha} emitters have been found in the cloud. Their color-magnitude distribution suggests a median age of about 0.5Myr, with considerable dispersion. There are also at least five bright B-type stars in the cloud, presumably of about the same age; none show the peculiarities expected of HAeBe stars. Dereddened, their apparent V magnitudes lead to a distance of about 700pc. Radio observations suggest that the optical object LkH{alpha} 101 is in fact a hot star surrounded by a small H II region, both inside an optically thick dust shell.

- LMC long-period variables from MACHO
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/136/1242
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present a new analysis of the long-period variables in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) from the MACHO Variable Star Catalog. Three-quarters of our sample of evolved, variable stars have periodic light curves. We characterize the stars in our sample using the multiple periods found in their frequency spectra. Additionally, we use single-epoch Two Micron All Sky Survey measurements to construct the average infrared light curves for different groups of these stars.
