- Radial velocities are given for some 900 stars within 15{deg} of the North Galactic Pole, including almost all such stars classified G5 or latter in the Henry-Draper Catalogue (Cat. <III/135>). Luminosities, two-dimensional spectral classes, composition indices, and distances are derived for the majority of the sample through DDO and BV photometry. The radial velocities come from several instruments (see the "Note(2)" section below) ; the BV and DDO photometries were obtained at Mount Laguna Observatory, with the San Diego State University 24-inch Schmidt reflector.

- In this work we derive new precise and homogeneous parameters for 37 stars with planets. For this purpose, we analyze high resolution spectra obtained by the NARVAL spectrograph for a sample composed of bright planet host stars in the northern hemisphere. The new parameters are included in the SWEET-Cat online catalogue. To ensure that the catalogue is homogeneous, we use our standard spectroscopic analysis procedure, ARES + MOOG, to derive effective temperatures, surface gravities, and metallicities. These spectroscopic stellar parameters are then used as input to compute the stellar mass and radius, which are fundamental for the derivation of the planetary mass and radius.

- We have performed the Fourier decomposition analysis of 11-yr V-band light curves of a carefully selected sample of 100 RR Lyrae variables, detected in the central regions of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), with the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment, phases II and III. The sample consisted of 84 fundamental mode pulsators (RRab stars) and 16 first-overtone pulsators (RRc stars). The Fourier decomposition parameters were used to derive metal abundances and distance moduli for these RR Lyrae variables.

- The literature was searched for [Fe/H] estimates of individual member stars of open clusters (OCs) based on the analysis of high-resolution spectra. The lower limit for spectral resolving power (R={lambda}/{Delta}{lambda}) was set to 25000, and the lower limit for signal-to-noise ratio was set to 50. We searched the PASTEL database (2010A&A...515A.111S, Cat. B/pastel) and the recent literature for such metallicity determinations in references posterior to 1990 and until June 2013. Only stars with an effective temperature lower than 7000K were included to avoid rapid rotators and chemical peculiarities. We eliminated confirmed non-members, spectroscopic binaries, and chemically peculiar stars and kept only stars with a high probability of membership. This resulted in a list of 571 stars in 86 OCs, with 830 metallicity determinations from 94 papers, which we call the starting sample.

- Open clusters are known as excellent tools for various topics in Galactic research. For example, they allow accurately tracing the chemical structure of the Galactic disc. However, the metallicity is known only for a rather low percentage of the open cluster population, and these values are based on a variety of methods and data. Therefore, a large and homogeneous sample is highly desirable. In the third part of our series we compile a large sample of homogenised open cluster metallicities using a wide variety of different sources. These data and a sample of Cepheids are used to investigate the radial metallicity gradient, age effects, and to test current models. We used photometric and spectroscopic data to derive cluster metallicities. The different sources were checked and tested for possible offsets and correlations. In total, metallicities for 172 open cluster were derived. We used the spectroscopic data of 100 objects for a study of the radial metallicity distribution and the age-metallicity relation. We found a possible increase of metallicity with age, which, if confirmed, would provide observational evidence for radial migration. Although a statistical significance is given, more studies are certainly needed to exclude selection effects, for example. The comparison of open clusters and Cepheids with recent Galactic models agrees well in general. However, the models do not reproduce the flat gradient of the open clusters in the outer disc. Thus, the effect of radial migration is either underestimated in the models, or an additional mechanism is at work. Apart from the Cepheids, open clusters are the best tracers for metallicity over large Galactocentric distances in the Milky Way. For a sound statistical analysis, a sufficiently large and homogeneous sample of cluster metallicities is needed. Our compilation is currently by far the largest and provides the basis for several basic studies such as the statistical treatment of the Galactic cluster population, or evolutionary studies of individual star groups in open clusters.

- In the framework of the study of the Galactic metallicity gradient and its time evolution, we present new high-resolution spectroscopic observations obtained with FLAMES and the fiber link to UVES at VLT of three open clusters (OCs) located within ~7kpc from the Galactic Center (GC): NGC 6192, NGC 6404, NGC 6583. We also present new orbit determination for all OCs with Galactocentric distances (R_gc_)<=8kpc and metallicity from high-resolution spectroscopy. We have derived memberships of a group of evolved stars for each clusters, obtaining a sample of 4, 4, and 2 member stars in NGC 6192, NGC 6404, and NGC 6583, respectively. Using standard LTE analysis we derived stellar parameters and abundance ratios for the iron-peak elements Fe, Ni, Cr, and for the {alpha}-elements Al, Mg, Si, Ti, Ca. We calculated the orbits of the OCs currently located within 8kpc from the GC, and discuss their implication on the present-time radial location. The average metallicities of the three clusters are all oversolar: [Fe/H]= +0.12+/-0.04 (NGC 6192), +0.11+/-0.04 (NGC 6404), +0.37+/-0.03 (NGC 6583). They are in qualitative agreement with their galactocentric distances, being all internal OCs, and thus expected to be metal richer than the solar neighborhood. The abundance ratios of the other elements over iron [X/Fe] are consistent with solar values. The clusters we have analysed, together with other OC and Cepheid data, confirm a steep gradient in the inner disk, a signature of an evolutionary rate different than in the outer disk.

- We have compiled a new catalogue of open clusters in the Galaxy which updates the previous catalogues of Lynga (1987, Cat. VII/92) and of Mermilliod (1995, in Information and On-Line Data in Astronomy, ed. D. Egret & M. A. Albrecht (Dordrecht: Kluwer), 127) (included in the WEBDA database, http://obswww.unige.ch/webda). New objects and new data, in particular, data on kinematics (proper motions) that were not present in the old catalogues, have been included. Virtually all the clusters (2167) presently known were included, which represents an increment of about 986 objects relative to the Lynga (1987, VII/92) catalogue. The catalogue is presented in a single table containing all the important data, which makes it easy to use. In total, 99.7% of the objects have estimates of their apparent diameters, and 74.5% have distance, E(B-V) and age determinations. Concerning the data on kinematics, 54.7% have their mean proper motions listed, 25% their mean radial velocities, and 24.2% have both information simultaneously.

- We present the first systematic study of the stellar populations of ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in the field, integrating the large area search and characterization of UDGs by the SMUDGes survey with the twelve-band optical photometry of the S-PLUS survey. Based on Bayesian modeling of the optical colors of UDGs, we determine the ages, metallicities, and stellar masses of 100 UDGs distributed in an area of ~330deg^2^ in the Stripe 82 region. We find that the stellar masses and metallicities of field UDGs are similar to those observed in clusters and follow the trends previously defined in studies of dwarf and giant galaxies. However, field UDGs have younger luminosity- weighted ages than do UDGs in clusters. We interpret this result to mean that field UDGs have more extended star formation histories, including some that continue to form stars at low levels to the present time. Finally, we examine stellar population scaling relations that show that UDGs are, as a population, similar to other low surface brightness galaxies.

- We test four competing models that aim to explain the nature of stars in spiral galaxies that are well away (>1kpc) from the midplane, the so-called thick disk: the stars may have gotten there through orbital migration, through satellite mergers and accretion, or through heating of pre-existing thin disk stars. The eccentricity distribution of thick disk stars has recently been proposed as a diagnostic to differentiate between these mechanisms. Drawing on SDSS-DR7, we have assembled a sample of 31535 G-dwarfs with six-dimensional phase-space information and metallicities and have derived the orbital eccentricities for them.

- Since the onset of the "space revolution" of high-precision high-cadence photometry, asteroseismology has been demonstrated as a powerful tool for informing Galactic archeology investigations. The launch of the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission has enabled seismic-based inferences to go full sky-providing a clear advantage for large ensemble studies of the different Milky Way components. Here we demonstrate its potential for investigating the Galaxy by carrying out the first asteroseismic ensemble study of red giant stars observed by TESS. We use a sample of 25 stars for which we measure their global asteroseimic observables and estimate their fundamental stellar properties, such as radius, mass, and age. Significant improvements are seen in the uncertainties of our estimates when combining seismic observables from TESS with astrometric measurements from the Gaia mission compared to when the seismology and astrometry are applied separately. Specifically, when combined we show that stellar radii can be determined to a precision of a few percent, masses to 5%-10%, and ages to the 20% level. This is comparable to the precision typically obtained using end-of-mission Kepler data.
