- Based on published data, we have compiled a catalogue of fundamental astrophysical parameters for 593 open clusters of the Galaxy. In particular, the catalogue provides the Galactic orbital elements for 500 clusters, the masses, central concentrations, and ellipticities for 424 clusters, the metallicities for 264 clusters, and the relative magnesium abundances for 56 clusters. We describe the sources of initial data and estimate the errors in the investigated parameters. The selection effects are discussed. The chemical and kinematical properties of the open clusters and field thin-disk stars are shown to differ. We provide evidence for the heterogeneity of the population of open star clusters.

- The catalogue of stars in the Galactic open cluster areas (CSOCA) is the result of the kinematic (proper motion), photometric and spatial member selection of stars listed in the homogeneous All-sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5 Million Stars (ASCC-2.5, Cat. <I/280>) within 520 areas with open clusters selected from an on-line release 2.0 of catalogue by Dias et al. (2004, http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~wilton, Cat. VII/229). The areas represent quadratic fields centered at adopted cluster centers with side lengths of a_cl_[deg]=2*(r_cl_+0.1), where r_cl_ is the determined angular radius of the cluster. For clusters with r_cl_<0.4{deg}, a_cl_=1{deg}. In every cluster area the CSOCA contains the complete list of the ASCC-2.5 stars. The catalog includes accurate J2000 equatorial coordinates, proper motions in the Hipparcos system, BV photometric data in the Johnson system, proper motion, photometric and spatial membership probabilities, and angular distances from the cluster centers for all included stars. If available, trigonometric parallaxes, multiplicity and variability flags from the ASCC-2.5, spectral types (from the ASCC-2.5 or the Tycho-2 Spectral Type Catalog <III/231>), and radial velocities with their errors from the Catalogue of Radial Velocities of Galactic Stars with high precision Astrometric Data (CRVAD, <III/239>) are also given. Since some cluster areas overlap each other some stars are included in the CSOCA several times. The catalogue contains 171319 entries for 149849 stars. Entries are sorted in right ascension J2000 order.

- A study of the H{alpha} variability of Be stars

- This paper presents the results of 4 years of high-resolution spectral observations of 69 emission-line stars, 54 of them being newly discovered sources. We classified the stars on the basis of their position in the two-color IR diagram and some additional criteria: shape and width of the H{alpha} profile, presence of He lines, proper motion and parallax, membership to open cluster and associations. Sixty of our targets turned out to be Be stars. We also found four late giants, four pre-MS stars, and one late dwarf. The H{alpha} emission profiles of our Be stars range from single peaked to typical shell profiles that can also be highly asymmetric or single-peaked profiles with a narrow absorption core. The emission profiles appear almost constant with time or highly variable in intensity and in their V/R ratio. The detected long-term variability of the H{alpha} emission is important for investigating the on/off switch phenomenon of Be stars. Our study led to an increase of the number of the emission-line stars of 16 open clusters.

- Recent observational results have demonstrated an increase in the surface Na abundance that correlates with stellar mass for red giants between 2 and 3M_{sun}_. This trend supports evolutionary mixing processes as the explanation for Na overabundances seen in some red giants. In this same mass range, the surface Al abundance was shown to be constant. Our main aim was to extend the investigation of the Na and Al surface abundances to giants more massive than 3M_{sun}_. We sought to establish accurately whether the Na abundances keep increasing with stellar mass or a plateau is reached. In addition, we investigated whether mixing can affect the surface abundance of Al in giants more massive than 3M_{sun}_. We obtained new high-resolution spectra of 20 giants in the field of 10 open clusters; 17 of these stars were found to be members of 9 clusters. The giants have masses between 2.5M_{sun}_ and 5.6M_{sun}_. A model atmosphere analysis was performed and abundances of up to 22 elements were derived using equivalent widths. Additionally, abundances of C, N, and O were determined using spectrum synthesis. The abundances of Na and Al were corrected for non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (non-LTE) effects. Moreover, to extend the mass range of our sample, we collected from the literature high-quality C, N, O, and Na abundances of 32 Galactic Cepheids with accurate masses in the range between 3M_{sun}_ and 14M_{sun}_. The surface abundances of C, N, O, Na, and Al were compared to predictions of stellar evolution models with and without the inclusion of rotation-induced mixing. The surface abundances of most giants and Cepheids of the sample can be explained by models without rotation. For giants above ~2.5M_{sun}_, the Na abundances reach a plateau level of about [Na/Fe]~0.20-0.25dex (in non-LTE). This is true for both Cepheids and giants in open clusters. Regarding Al, the non-LTE [Al/Fe] ratios are mostly close to solar and suggest that Al is not affected by the first dredge-up up to ~5.0M_{sun}_. Our results support previous works that found models with rotation to overestimate the mixing effects in intermediate-mass stars.

- The asteroseismic and planetary studies, like all research related to stars, need precise and accurate stellar atmospheric parameters as input. We aim at deriving the effective temperature (Teff), the surface gravity (logg), the metallicity ([Fe/H]), the projected rotational velocity (vsini) and the MK type for 169 F-, G-, K- and M-type Kepler targets which were observed spectroscopically from the ground with five different instruments. We use two different spectroscopic methods to analyse 189 high-resolution, high-signal-to-noise spectra acquired for the 169 stars. For 67 stars, the spectroscopic atmospheric parameters are derived for the first time. KIC 9693187 and 11179629 are discovered to be double-lined spectroscopic binary systems. The results obtained for those stars for which independent determinations of the atmospheric parameters are available in the literature are used for a comparative analysis. As a result, we show that for solar-type stars the accuracy of present determinations of atmospheric parameters is +/-150K in Teff, +/-0.15dex in [Fe/H] and +/-0.3dex in logg. Finally, we confirm that the curve-of-growth analysis and the method of spectral synthesis yield systematically different atmospheric parameters when they are applied to stars hotter than 6000K.

- The early evolutionary stage of brown dwarfs (BDs) is not very well characterized, especially during the embedded phase. Our goal is to gain insight into the dominant formation mechanism of very low-mass objects and BDs. We have conducted deep observations at 870um obtained with the LABOCA bolometer at the APEX telescope in order to identify young submillimeter (submm) sources in the Barnard 30 dark cloud. We have complemented these data with multi-wavelength observations from the optical to the far-IR and compiled complete spectral energy distributions in order to identify the counterparts, characterize the sources and to assess their membership to the association and stellar or substellar status based on the available photometric information. We have identified 34 submm sources and a substantial number of possible and probable Barnard 30 members within each individual APEX/LABOCA beam. They can be classified into three distinct groups. First, 15 of these 34 have a clear optical or IR counterpart to the submm peak and nine of them are potential proto-BD candidates. Moreover, a substantial number of them could be multiple systems. A second group of 13 sources comprises candidate members with significant infrared excesses located away from the central submm emission. All of them include BD candidates, some displaying IR excess, but their association with submm emission is unclear. In addition, we have found six starless cores and, based on the total dust mass estimate, three might be pre-substellar (or pre-BDs) cores. Finally, the complete characterization of our APEX/LABOCA sources, focusing on those detected at 24 and/or 70um, indicates that in our sample of 34 submm sources there are, at least: two WTTs, four CTTs, five young stellar objects, eight proto-BD candidates (with another three dubious cases), and one very low luminosity objects.

- The authors present nine color CCD intermediate-band spectrophotometry of a two square degree field centered on the old open cluster M67, from 3890 Angstroms to nearly 1 micron. These observations are taken as a part of the BATC (Beijing-Arizona-Taipei-Connecticut) Color Survey of the Sky, for both scientific and calibration reasons. The BATC program uses a dedicated 60/90 cm Schmidt telecope with a 2048 x 2048 CCD and 15 specially-designed intermediate-band filters to be applied to both galactic and extragalactic studies. Nine-band spectrophotometry of 6558 stars is presented.

- In this paper we analyse the evolutionary status of three open clusters: NGC 1817, NGC 2141 and Berkeley 81. They are all of intermediate age, two are located in the Galactic anticentre direction while the third one is located in the Galactic Centre direction. All of them were observed with Large Binocular Camera at Large Binocular Telescope using the Bessel B, V and I filters. The cluster parameters have been obtained using the synthetic colour-magnitude diagram (CMD) method, i.e. the direct comparison of the observational CMDs with a library of synthetic CMDs generated with different evolutionary sets (Padova, FRANEC and FST). This analysis shows that NGC 1817 has subsolar metallicity, age between 0.8 and 1.2Gyr, reddening E(B-V) in the range 0.21 and 0.34 and distance modulus (m-M)_0_ of about 10.9; NGC 2141 is older, with age in the range 1.25 and 1.9Gyr, E(B-V) between 0.36 and 0.45, (m-M)_0_ between 11.95 and 12.21 and subsolar metallicity; Berkeley 81 has metallicity about solar, with age between 0.75 and 1.0Gyr, has reddening E(B-V)~0.90 and distance modulus (m-M)_0~12.4. Exploiting the large field of view of the instrument we derive the structure parameters for NGC 2141 and Berkeley 81 by fitting a King profile to the estimated density profile. Combining this information with the synthetic CMD technique we estimate a lower limit for the cluster total mass for these two systems.

- We have performed multiband UBVRcIcJHKs photometry of two young clusters located at large Galactocentric distances in the direction of the Perseus spiral arm. The obtained distances and colour excesses amount to 3.9+/-0.11kpc, E(B-V)=0.62+/-0.05 for Berkeley 94, and 4.3+/-0.15kpc, E(B-V)=0.58+/-0.06 for Berkeley 96. The respective ages, as measured from the comparison of the upper colour-magnitude diagrams to model isochrones, amount to log10Age(yr)=7.5+/-0.07 and 7.0+/-0.07, respectively. A sequence of optical pre-main-sequence (PMS) members is proposed in both clusters. In addition, samples of objects showing (H-Ks) excess are found. Part of these are suggested to be PMS cluster members of lower mass than the optical candidates. The spatial distribution of these sources, the comparison to Galactic models and to the expected number of contaminating distant red galaxies, and the spectral energy distribution in particular cases support this suggestion. The spatial distributions shown by members in different mass ranges can be interpreted in terms of the results from numerical simulations. According to these, different initial conditions and evolutionary dynamical paths are suggested for the clusters. Berkeley 94 would have formed under supervirial conditions, and followed the so-called warm collapse model in its evolution, whereas Berkeley 96 would have formed with a subvirial structure, and would have evolved following a cold collapse path. Both processes would be able to reproduce the suggested degree of mass segregation and their spatial distribution by mass range. Finally, the mass distributions of the clusters, from the most massive stars down to PMS stars around 1.3M_{sun}_, are calculated. An acceptable general agreement with the Salpeter initial mass function slope is found.
