- We present the reduction of the 24{mu}m data obtained during the first cosmological survey performed by the Spitzer Space Telescope. Images of a region of sky at moderately high Galactic latitude (l=88.3{deg}, b=+34.9{deg}) were obtained on 2003 December 9-11. The survey consists of a shallow observation of 2.5x2{deg}^2^ centered at 17:18 +59:30 (main survey) and a deeper observation of 1{deg}x0.5{deg} centered at 17:17 +59:45 (verification survey). Issues with the reduction of the 24{mu}m MIPS data are discussed and solutions to attenuate instrumental effects are proposed and applied to the data. Approximately 17000 sources are extracted with a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) greater than 5. The photometry of the point sources is evaluated through point-spread function (PSF) fitting using an empirical PSF derived from the data. Aperture corrections and the absolute calibration have been checked using stars in the field. Astrometric and photometric errors depend on the S/N of the source varying between 0.35"-1" and 5%-15%, respectively, for sources detected at 20-5{sigma}. The fluxes of the 123 extended sources have been estimated through aperture photometry. The extended sources cover less than 0.3% of the total area of the survey. Based on simulations, the main and verification surveys are 50% complete at 0.3 and 0.15mJy, respectively. Counterparts have been searched for in optical and radio catalogs.

- The study of the planet-debris disk connection can shed light on the formation and evolution of planetary systems and may help "predict" the presence of planets around stars with certain disk characteristics. In preliminary analyses of subsamples of the Herschel DEBRIS and DUNES surveys, Wyatt et al. (2012MNRAS.424.1206W) and Marshall et al. (2014A&A...565A..15M) identified a tentative correlation between debris and the presence of low-mass planets. Here we use the cleanest possible sample out of these Herschel surveys to assess the presence of such a correlation, discarding stars without known ages, with ages <1Gyr, and with binary companions <100AU to rule out possible correlations due to effects other than planet presence. In our resulting subsample of 204 FGK stars, we do not find evidence that debris disks are more common or more dusty around stars harboring high-mass or low-mass planets compared to a control sample without identified planets.

- The US (UV-excess Starlike) survey has cataloged 3987 objects in 7 high Galactic latitude fields according to their optical colors, magnitudes, and morphologies using photographic techniques. This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the survey at producing finding lists for complete samples of hot stars and quasars that exhibit blue and/or ultraviolet excess (B-UVX) relative to the colors of halo F and G subdwarf stars. A table of 599 spectroscopic identifications summarizes the spectroscopic coverage of the US objects that has been accomplished to date.

- A complete, flux density limited sample of 96 faint (>0.5mJy) radio sources is selected from the 10C survey at 15.7GHz in the Lockman Hole. We have matched this sample to a range of multi-wavelength catalogues, including Spitzer Extragalactic Representative Volume Survey, Spitzer Wide-area Infrared Extragalactic survey, United Kingdom Infrared Telescope Infrared Deep Sky Survey and optical data; multi-wavelength counterparts are found for 80 of the 96 sources and spectroscopic redshifts are available for 24 sources. Photometric redshifts are estimated for the sources with multi-wavelength data available; the median redshift of the sample is 0.91 with an interquartile range of 0.84. Radio-to-optical ratios show that at least 94 per cent of the sample are radio loud, indicating that the 10C sample is dominated by radio galaxies. This is in contrast to samples selected at lower frequencies, where radio-quiet AGN and star-forming galaxies are present in significant numbers at these flux density levels. All six radio-quiet sources have rising radio spectra, suggesting that they are dominated by AGN emission. These results confirm the conclusions of that the faint, flat-spectrum sources which are found to dominate the 10C sample below ~1mJy are the cores of radio galaxies. The properties of the 10C sample are compared to the Square Kilometre Array Design Studies Simulated Skies; a population of low-redshift star-forming galaxies predicted by the simulation is not found in the observed sample.

From 285 stars, 161 are newly detected objects: they are 17 carbon stars, 25 carbon star candidates, and 117 M-type stars. The spectral type of two objects is assumed to be between M8 - M9 or late N-subtypes. Among 161 objects, 85 (66 PSC + 19 FSC) are unclassified IRAS sources. Accurate positions, spectral classes, red magnitudes, and color indices are given using several astronomical databases. Finding charts from DSS are given for the most interesting objects.

- We present the fifteenth list of faint late M and Carbon type stars detected on the Digitized First Byurakan Survey (DFBS) spectral plates in the zone with +45{deg}<={delta}<=+49{deg} covering 678.4{deg}^2^. Accurate DSS2 positions, USNO-B1.0 B, R, and I magnitudes, 2MASS near-infrared J, H, and Ks photometry, IRAS PSC/FSC fluxes (when available), approximate spectral types and luminosity class estimations are given for 72 objects from which 9 are new confirmed carbon stars and 63 are M-type stars. For seven Mirids with known pulsation periods the absolute luminosities are derived, using Period-Luminosity relations. Absolute visual magnitudes and distances for five M dwarfs are estimated, using V-I color index. The object FBS 0845+466 is a candidate carbon dwarf with distance r~72pc.

- We present a Ks-selected catalog, dubbed FIREWORKS, for the Chandra Deep Field-South (CDF-S) containing photometry in the U_38_, B_435_, B, V, V_606_, R, i_775_, I, z_850_, J, H, Ks, [3.6um], [4.5um], [5.8um], [8.0um], and MIPS [24um] bands. The imaging has a typical K^tot^_s,AB_ limit of 24.3mag (5{sigma}) and coverage over 113arcmin^2^ in all bands and 138arcmin^2^ in all bands but H. We cross-correlate our catalog with the 1Ms X-ray catalog by Giacconi et al. (2002, Cat. J/ApJS/139/369) and with all available spectroscopic redshifts to date. We find and explain systematic differences in a comparison with the "z_850_+Ks"-selected GOODS-MUSIC catalog (Cat. J/A+A/449/951) that covers ~90% of the field. We exploit the U_38_-to-24um photometry to determine which Ks-selected galaxies at 1.5<z<2.5 have the brightest total IR luminosities and which galaxies contribute most to the integrated total IR emission. The answer to both questions is that red galaxies are dominating in the IR. This is true no matter whether color is defined in the rest-frame UV, optical, or optical-near-IR. We do find, however, that among the reddest galaxies in the rest-frame optical, there is a population of sources with only little mid-IR emission, suggesting a quiescent nature.

- Using the public data from the Herschel wide-field surveys, we study the far-infrared properties of optical-selected quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Within the common area of ~172deg^2^, we have identified the far-infrared counterparts for 354 quasars, among which 134 are highly secure detections in the Herschel 250um band (signal-to-noise ratios >=5). This sample is the largest far-infrared quasar sample of its kind, and spans a wide redshift range of 0.14<=z<=4.7. Their far-infrared spectral energy distributions, which are due to the cold-dust components within the host galaxies, are consistent with being heated by active star formation. In most cases (>~80%), their total infrared luminosities as inferred from only their far-infrared emissions (L_IR_^(cd)^) already exceed 10^12^L_{sun}_, and thus these objects qualify as ultra-luminous infrared galaxies. There is no correlation between L_IR_^(cd)^ and the absolute magnitudes, the black hole masses or the X-ray luminosities of the quasars, which further support that their far-infrared emissions are not due to their active galactic nuclei. A large fraction of these objects (>~50%-60%) have star-formation rates >~300M_{sun}_/yr. Such extreme starbursts among optical quasars, however, is only a few percent. This fraction varies with redshift, and peaks at around z~2. Among the entire sample, 136 objects have secure estimates of their cold-dust temperatures (T), and we find that there is a dramatic increasing trend of T with increasing L_IR_^(cd)^. We interpret this trend as the envelope of the general distribution of infrared galaxies on the (T, L_IR_^(cd)^) plane.
