- The Herschel Space Observatory was the fourth cornerstone mission in the European Space Agency (ESA) science programme. It had excellent broad band imaging capabilities in the far-infrared (FIR) and sub-millimetre part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Although the spacecraft finished observing in 2013, it left a large legacy dataset that is far from having been fully explored and still has a great potential for new scientific discoveries. The PACS and SPIRE photometric cameras observed about 8% of the sky in six different wavebands. This document describes the Herschel/PACS Point Source Catalogue (HPPSC), a FIR catalogue based on the broad-band photometric observations of the PACS instrument with filters centred at 70, 100 and 160um. We analysed all combined, Level 2.5/Level 3 Herschel/PACS photometric observations including 682 Parallel Mode, 12932 nominal mode and 1644 SSO maps. The PACS photometer maps that we produced were generated by applying the JScanam task of the Herschel Interactive Processing Environment (HIPE) v13.0.0. Sources were identified with the HIPE implementation of SUSSEXtractor, and the flux densities obtained by aperture photometry. We found a total of 108319 point sources that are considered to be reliable in the 70um maps, 131322 at 100um and 251392 point sources in the 160um maps. In addition, our quality control algorithm identified 546587 candidate sources that were found to be extended and 7185160 features which did not pass the signal-to-noise and other criteria to be considered reliable sources. These sources were included in the Extended Source List and Rejected Source List of the HPPSC, respectively. The calculated completeness and photometric accuracy values are based on simulations, where artificial sources were injected into the observational timeline with well controlled flux density values. The actual completeness is a complex function of the source flux, photometric band and the background complexity.

- We present the first set of maps and band-merged catalog from the Herschel Stripe 82 Survey (HerS). Observations at 250, 350, and 500{mu}m were taken with the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) instrument aboard the Herschel Space Observatory. HerS covers 79deg^2^ along the SDSS Stripe 82 to an average depth of 13.0, 12.9, and 14.8mJy/beam (including confusion) at 250, 350, and 500{mu}m, respectively. HerS was designed to measure correlations with external tracers of the dark matter density field --either point-like (i.e., galaxies selected from radio to X-ray) or extended (i.e., clusters and gravitational lensing)-- in order to measure the bias and redshift distribution of intensities of infrared-emitting dusty star-forming galaxies and active galactic nuclei. By locating HerS in Stripe 82, we maximize the overlap with available and upcoming cosmological surveys. The band-merged catalog contains 3.3x10^4^ sources detected at a significance of >~3{sigma} (including confusion noise).

- We present the quantitative methods used for selecting candidate metal-poor stars in the Hamburg/ESO objective-prism survey (HES). The selection is based on the strength of the CaII K line, B-V colors (both measured directly from the digital HES spectra), as well as J-K colors from the 2 Micron All Sky Survey. The KP index for CaII K can be measured from the HES spectra with an accuracy of 1.0{AA}, and a calibration of the HES B-V colors, using CCD photometry, yields a 1-sigma uncertainty of 0.07mag for stars in the color range 0.3<B-V<1.4.

- We present the preliminary results of our astrometric study of stellar motions along the lines of sight of the Magellanic Clouds and the Galactic bulge. Using 5 years of MACHO project point-spread function photometry, we find that we can easily select stars with proper motions of 0.03"/yr from these very dense fields, using the characteristic shapes of their light curves. By performing astrometry on photometrically selected, candidate, high proper motion (HPM) stars in 50 deg^2^, we have discovered 154 new HPM stars from ~55 million stars monitored by the MACHO project. These new objects have proper motions as high as 0.5"/yr, brightnesses ranging from V ~13 to V~19, and V-R colors between 0.3 and 1.45.

- We present an atlas of 88 z~5.7 and 30 z~6.5 Ly{alpha} emitters obtained from a wide-field narrowband survey. We combined deep narrowband imaging in 120{AA} bandpass filters centered at 8150{AA} and 9140{AA} with deep BVRIz broadband imaging to select high-redshift galaxy candidates over an area of 4180arcmin^2^. The goal was to obtain a uniform selection of comparable depth over the seven targeted fields in the two filters. For the GOODS-North region of the Hubble Deep Field-North field, we also selected candidates using a 120{AA} filter centered at 9210{AA}. We made spectroscopic observations with Keck DEIMOS of nearly all the candidates to obtain the final sample of Ly{alpha} emitters. At the 3.3{AA} resolution of the DEIMOS observations the asymmetric profile for Ly{alpha} emission can be clearly seen in the spectra of nearly all the galaxies. We show that the spectral profiles are surprisingly similar for many of the galaxies and that the composite spectral profiles are nearly identical at z=5.7 and z=6.5.

- We present HI observations of 68 early-type disk galaxies from the WHISP survey. They have morphological types between S0 and Sab and absolute B-band magnitudes between -14 and -22. These galaxies form the massive, high surface-brightness extreme of the disk galaxy population, few of which have been imaged in HI before. The HI properties of the galaxies in our sample span a large range; the average values of MHI/LB and DHI/D25 are comparable to the ones found in later-type spirals, but the dispersions around the mean are larger. No significant differences are found between the S0/S0a and the Sa/Sab galaxies.

- The space density of late M dwarfs, sub-types M7 to M9.5, is not well determined. We have applied the photo-type method of Skrzypek et al. to iz photometry from SDSS and YJHK photometry from UKIDSS, over an effective area of 3070deg^2^, to produce a new, bright J(Vega)<17.5, homogeneous sample of 33665 M7 to M9.5 dwarfs. The typical S/N of each source summed over the 6 bands is >100. Classifications are provided to the nearest half spectral sub-type. Through comparison with the classifications in the BUD spectroscopic sample of Schmidt et al. (2010, Cat. J/AJ/139/1808), the typing is shown to be accurately calibrated to the BUD classifications, with a precision better than 0.5 sub-types rms, i.e. is as precise as good spectroscopic classification. Sources with large chisq>20 include several catalogued late-type subdwarfs. The new sample of late M dwarfs is highly complete, but there is a bias in the classification of rare peculiar blue or red objects. For example L subdwarfs are misclassified towards earlier types by approximately two spectral sub-types. We estimate that this bias affects only ~1% of sources. Therefore the sample is well suited for measuring the luminosity function, as well as investigating the softening towards the Galactic plane of the exponential variation of density with height.

- We present optical spectra of 144 white dwarfs detected in the Montreal-Cambridge-Tololo colorimetric survey, including 120 DA, 12 DB, 4 DO, 1 DQ, and 7 DC stars. We also perform a model atmosphere analysis of all objects in our sample using the so-called spectroscopic technique, or the photometric technique in the case of DC white dwarfs. The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing effort of confirming spectroscopically all white dwarf candidates in the Gaia survey, in particular in the southern hemisphere. All our spectra are made available in the Montreal White Dwarf Database.

- We have carried out a systematic search for galaxy-scale strong lenses in multiband imaging from the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey. Our automated pipeline, based on realistic strong-lens simulations, deep neural network classification, and visual inspection, is aimed at efficiently selecting systems with wide image separations (Einstein radii ~1.0-3.0"), intermediate redshift lenses (z~0.4-0.7), and bright arcs for galaxy evolution and cosmology. We classified gri images of all 62.5 million galaxies in HSC Wide with i-band Kron radius >0.8" to avoid strict preselections and to prepare for the upcoming era of deep, wide-scale imaging surveys with Euclid and Rubin Observatory. We obtained 206 newly-discovered candidates classified as definite or probable lenses with either spatially-resolved multiple images or extended, distorted arcs. In addition, we found 88 high-quality candidates that were assigned lower confidence in previous HSC searches, and we recovered 173 known systems in the literature. These results demonstrate that, aided by limited human input, deep learning pipelines with false positive rates as low as ~0.01% can be very powerful tools for identifying the rare strong lenses from large catalogs, and can also largely extend the samples found by traditional algorithms. We provide a ranked list of candidates for future spectroscopic confirmation.

- We present results from a two epoch Hubble Space Telescope H{alpha} emission line survey of the Andromeda galaxy that overlaps the footprint of the Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) survey. We found 552 (542) classical Be stars and 8429 (8556) normal B-type stars in epoch 1 (epoch 2), yielding an overall fractional Be content of 6.15%{+/-}0.26% (5.96%{+/-}0.25%). The fractional Be content decreased with spectral subtype from ~23.6%{+/-}2.0% (~23.9%{+/-}2.0%) for B0-type stars to ~3.1%{+/-}0.34% (~3.4%{+/-}0.35%) for B8-type stars in epoch 1 (epoch 2). We observed a clear population of cluster Be stars at early fractional main-sequence lifetimes, indicating that a subset of Be stars emerge onto the zero-age main sequence as rapid rotators. Be stars are 2.8x rarer in M31 for the earliest subtypes compared to the Small Magellanic Cloud, confirming that the fractional Be content decreases in significantly more metal-rich environments (like the Milky Way and M31). However, M31 does not follow a clear trend of Be fraction decreasing with metallicity compared to the Milky Way, which may reflect that the Be phenomenon is enhanced with evolutionary age. The rate of disk-loss or disk-regeneration episodes we observed, 22%{+/-}2%/yr, is similar to that observed for seven other Galactic clusters reported in the literature, assuming these latter transient fractions scale by a linear rate. The similar number of disk-loss events (57) as disk-renewal events (43) was unexpected since disk dissipation timescales can be ~2x the typical timescales for disk build-up phases.
