- The thirteenth list of faint late M and carbon type stars detected on the plates of the First Byurakan Spectral Sky Survey in zone +1{deg}<={delta}<=+13{deg} covering about 3118 sq. degrees is presented. From 285 stars, 161 are newly detected objects: they are 17 carbon stars, 25 carbon star candidates, and 117 M-type stars. The spectral type of two objects is assumed to be between M8 - M9 or late N-subtypes. Among 161 objects, 85 (66 PSC + 19 FSC) are unclassified IRAS sources. Accurate positions, spectral classes, red magnitudes, and color indices are given using several astronomical databases. Finding charts from DSS are given for the most interesting objects.

From 260 stars, 118 are newly detected objects: they are 19 carbon stars, 5 carbon star candidates, and 94 M-type stars. Among 118 detected objects 73 (57 PSC + 16 FSC) are unclassified IRAS sources. - We present the fifteenth list of faint late M and Carbon type stars detected on the Digitized First Byurakan Survey (DFBS) spectral plates in the zone with +45{deg}<={delta}<=+49{deg} covering 678.4{deg}^2^. Accurate DSS2 positions, USNO-B1.0 B, R, and I magnitudes, 2MASS near-infrared J, H, and Ks photometry, IRAS PSC/FSC fluxes (when available), approximate spectral types and luminosity class estimations are given for 72 objects from which 9 are new confirmed carbon stars and 63 are M-type stars. For seven Mirids with known pulsation periods the absolute luminosities are derived, using Period-Luminosity relations. Absolute visual magnitudes and distances for five M dwarfs are estimated, using V-I color index. The object FBS 0845+466 is a candidate carbon dwarf with distance r~72pc.

- The eleventh list of faint late M and carbon type stars detected on the plates of the First Byurakan Spectral Survey in zone -7{deg}<={delta}<=-3{deg} and covering about 1000 square degrees is presented. From 126 detected stars, 88 are newly discovered objects: they are 6 carbon stars, 8 carbon star candidates, and 74 M-type stars; among the latter 38 (26 PSC + 12 FSC) are unclassified IRAS sources, and one object is an unclassified ROSAT source. Distances to the 6 newly discovered early-type carbon stars are estimated. Equatorial coordinates, red magnitudes, and spectral classes determined from the Palomar E-charts are provided. The lack of optical counterparts on Palomar O and E maps for two detected late M-type stars indicates a large variability in brightnesses of these objects (amplitude not smaller than 7.0 magnitude).

- The relation between the Ultra Compact Dwarf galaxies (hereafter UCDs) recently discovered in the Fornax cluster (Drinkwater et al., 2003Natur.423..519D; Mieske et al., 2002, Cat. <J/A+A/383/823>) and the brightest globular clusters associated with the central galaxy NGC 1399 has been investigated in the spectroscopic Fornax Compact Object Survey FCOS. FCOS was carried out with the 2.5m du Pont telescope at Las Campanas, in the three nights of 2002/12/04 to 2002/12/06. Mieske et al. (2002, Cat. <J/A+A/383/823>) deals with the first part FCOS-1, this paper deals with the larger FCOS-2. The spectral resolution of FCOS was approx. 4{AA}. In the FCOS, 280 unresolved objects with 0<(V-I)<1.5mag in the magnitude space covering UCDs and bright globular clusters (18<V<21mag) were observed spectroscopically, among them 185 in FCOS-2. In the entire FCOS-sample there are five already known UCDs and 54 new Fornax members, 12 from FCOS-1 and 42 from FCOS-2.

- Several recent studies have demonstrated that the Galactic bulge hosts two components with different mean metallicities, and possibly different spatial distribution and kinematics. As a consequence, both the metallicity distribution and the radial velocity of bulge stars vary across different line of sights. We present here the metallicity distribution function of red clump stars in 26 fields spread across a wide area of the bulge, with special emphasis on fields close to Galactic plane, at latitudes b=-2 and b=-1, that were not explored before. This work includes new metallicities from a sample of ~5000 K giant stars, observed at spectral resolution R~6500, in the Calcium II Triplet region. They are the main dataset of the GIRAFFE Inner Bulge Survey. As part of the same survey we have previously published results for a sample of ~600 K giant stars, at latitude b~-4 derived from higher resolution spectra (R=22500). The combined sample allows us to trace and characterize the metal poor and metal rich bulge populations down to the inner bulge. We present a density map for each of the two components. Contrary to the expectations from previous works, we found the metal poor population to be more centrally concentrated than the metal rich one, and with a more axisymmetric spatial distribution. The metal rich population, on the other hand, is arranged in a boxy distribution, consistent with an edge-on bar. By coupling metallicities and radial velocities we show that the metal poor population has a velocity dispersion that varies rather mildly with latitude. On the contrary, the metal rich population has a low velocity dispersion far from the plane (b=-8.5) but it has a steeper gradient with latitude, becoming higher than the metal poor one in the innermost field (b=-1). This work provides new observational constraints on the actual chemodynamical properties of the Galactic bulge, that will help discriminating among different formation models.

- The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has greatly expanded the number and energy window of observations of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). However, the coarse localizations of tens to a hundred square degrees provided by the Fermi GRB Monitor instrument have posed a formidable obstacle to locating the bursts' host galaxies, measuring their redshifts, and tracking their panchromatic afterglows. We have built a target-of-opportunity (TOO) mode for the intermediate Palomar Transient Factory (iPTF) in order to perform targeted searches for Fermi afterglows. Here, we present the results of one year of this program: 8 afterglow discoveries out of 35 searches. Two of the bursts with detected afterglows (GRBs 130702A and 140606B) were at low redshift (z=0.145 and 0.384, respectively) and had spectroscopically confirmed broad-line Type Ic supernovae. We present our broadband follow-up including spectroscopy as well as X-ray, UV, optical, millimeter, and radio observations. We study possible selection effects in the context of the total Fermi and Swift GRB samples. We identify one new outlier on the Amati relation. We find that two bursts are consistent with a mildly relativistic shock breaking out from the progenitor star rather than the ultra-relativistic internal shock mechanism that powers standard cosmological bursts. Finally, in the context of the Zwicky Transient Facility, we discuss how we will continue to expand this effort to find optical counterparts of binary neutron star mergers that may soon be detected by Advanced LIGO and Virgo.

- Photographic plates of the Harvard Observatory stacks have been used to obtain 1261 brightness estimates for the low-amplitude Cepheid FF Aql (P=4.47 days). Combined with published visual, photoelectric, and CCD observations, these data enable the construction of an O-C diagram spanning 122 years. The resulting O-C diagram is parabola-shaped, enabling the determination of quadratic brightness elements for the first time. The evolutionary rate of increase of the period, dP/dt=0.072+/-0.011s/year, is in agreement with theoretical computations for the third crossing of the instability strip. The available data, reduced using the technique of by Eddington and Plakidis, reveal the presence of small, random period fluctuations, {epsilon}=0.0061d+/-0.0044d, that do not distort the evolutionary trend of the O-C residuals.

- We present accurate BV(RI)c photometry for a sample of F, G and K stars detected in selected areas of the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS). We have used the photometry, in addition to low-resolution spectroscopy, to estimate spectral classifications, distances and X-ray luminosities. The log(L_X_/L_V_) in the sample lies below -2. Although the sample contains also nearby, inactive stars, it is dominated by active objects. The median X-ray luminosity in our sample is <L_X_>=29.88 and the mean value of the hardness ratios <HR1>=0.13+/-0.35. We compare the derived X-ray luminosity function with similar functions obtained from the serendipitous samples of the Einstein Observatory medium sensitivity survey (EMSS, Cat. <IX/15>) and EXOSAT (Cat. <J/A+AS/115/41>). Our sample is completely consistent with the EMSS sample of solar type stars, indicating that both our sources and the EMSS sources are representative of the high galactic latitude X-ray stellar population. We do not find extremely active stars (log(L_X_)>=32), as are found in the EMSS sample, and we argue that these objects are rare.
