- Description:
- A compilation of the photoelectric measurements in the Barbier-Morguleff system is presented for 773 stars of spectral types O8 to F6. 706 stars have been measured at least twice. The passbands (in Angstroems) and the mean photometric errors of the indexes C(j)-C(2) (in magnitudes) are: ----------------------- Band Interval m.e. ----------------------- C(1) 6000-5900 0.0318 C(2) 5000-4900 --- C(3) 4905-4815 0.0073 C(4) 4380-4310 0.0100 C(5) 4070-4010 0.0102 C(6) 3965-3925 0.0201 C(7) 3780-3720 0.0195 C(8) 3650-3575 0.0189 ----------------------- Regarding the catalog Pass Bands Morguleff and Gerbaldi (1975) note the following: These spectral intervals permit the determination of certain physical characteristics .... The pass bands 1 and 5 lead us to calculate red and blue gradients. The equivalent widths of the H(beta), H(gamma) lines of hydrogen and the K lines of Ca II are derived from band 3, 4, and 6. Bands 7 and 8 measure the Balmer jump. Listed in the catalog file are the normalized magnitudes corresponding to the above pass bands. The normalized magnitude of a pass band, C(j), is defined as the color index of the magnitude in the band minus the magnitude of the second band, C(2). See Morguleff and Gerbaldi (1975) for a brief discussion of conservation of the system and mean errors across all stars.

- Narrow-Band Photometry of Late-Type Stars
- Short Name:
- II/21A
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The catalog is a compilation of photoelectric photometry obtained as part of a program investigating the distribution of stars and stellar matter perpendicular to the galactic plane. Compared to the publication, the "catalog" file does not include the position, the spectral type, the source of the UBV photometry, and neither the number of measurements in the narrow-band filters. The observations have mainly been made with the 33cm photographic tube of the Uppsaala double refractor, using a diaphragm of 0.7mm corresponding to 33". A small number of measurements have also been made with the 15cm Zeiss-Heyde astrograph. The observations were made between January 1967 and April 1968.

- Description:
- We present mid-infrared N- and Q-band photometry of the Galactic center from images obtained with the mid-infrared camera VISIR at the ESO VLT in 2004 May. The high resolution and sensitivity possible with VISIR enable us to investigate a total of over 60 pointlike sources, an unprecedented number for the Galactic center at these wavelengths. Combining these data with previous results at shorter wavelengths (Viehmann and coworkers, Cat. J/A+A/433/117) enables us to construct SEDs covering the H- to Q-band regions of the spectrum, i.e., 1.6-19.5{mu}m.

- Description:
- We present the first multi-epoch N-band spectro-interferometric observations of the carbon-rich Mira variable V Oph using MIDI at the ESO's Very Large Telescope Interferometer. Our aim is to study temporal variations of physical properties of the outer atmosphere and the circumstellar dust shell based on spectrally-dispersed N-band visibilities over the C_2_H_2_ (+HCN) features and the dust emission.

- Description:
- We develop a method to identify the spectroscopic signature of unresolved L-dwarf ultracool companions, which compares the spectra of candidates and their associated control stars using spectral ratio differences and residual spectra. We present SpeX prism-mode spectra (0.7-2.5 micron) for a pilot sample of one hundred and eleven mid M dwarfs, including twenty-eight which were previously identified as candidates for unresolved ultracool companionship (a sub-sample from Cook et al. 2016; paper 1) and eighty-three single M dwarfs which were optically colour-similar to these candidates (which we use as `control stars'). We identify four candidates with evidence for near-infrared excess. One of these (WISE J100202.50+074136.3) shows strong evidence for an unresolved L dwarf companion in both its spectral ratio difference and its residual spectra, two most likely have a different source for the near-infrared excess, and the other may be due to spectral noise. We also establish expectations for a null result (i.e. by searching for companionship signatures around the M dwarf control stars), as well as determining the expected outcome for ubiquitous companionship (as a means of comparison with our actual results), using artificially generated unresolved M+L dwarf spectra. The results of these analyses are compared to those for the candidate sample, and reasonable consistency is found. With a full follow-up program of our candidates sample from paper 1, we might expect to confirm up to 40 such companions in the future, adding extensively to the known desert population of M3-M5 dwarfs.

- Nearby clusters of galaxies. I.
- Short Name:
- J/A+AS/94/327

- Publisher:

- Description:
- A study of the properties of nearby clusters of galaxies has been undertaken. This paper describes the data, derived from automated scans of photographic plates. Different methods for the evaluation of cluster center, ellipticity and orientation are compared and errors are estimated by Monte Carlo simulations. We present the results of the analysis of 1256 galaxies brighter than m_3_+3 in eight Abell clusters. We find that different methods give consistent estimates of ellipticity and orientation, provided the radial dependence of these quantities is taken into account. We also find that central densities are consistent with isothermal fits if the center is selected as the baricenter of the cluster. For each galaxy, rectangular coordinates, magnitude, size, ellipticity and orientation are given. For each cluster we provide identification maps and contour maps of galaxy surface density.

- Description:
- This paper is the third of a series (Trevese et al. 1992, Paper I, Cat. <J/A+AS/94/327>, Flin et al. 1995, Cat. <J/A+AS/110/313>, Paper II, presenting F band photometry, from digitized 48-inch Palomar plates, of the galaxies brighter than m_3_+3 in a clusters. For each galaxy, absolute coordinates, magnitude, size, ellipticity and orientation are given. For each cluster we provide finding charts and contour maps of the galaxy surface density. In the present paper we analyze 15 new clusters and provide the absolute alpha and delta coordinates of the galaxies of 8 Abell clusters, studied in pap. I, which were published with relative coordinates only. In the electronic version, the tables of the 8 clusters of pap. I are written in the same format of papers II and III.

- Nearby early-type galaxies catalog
- Short Name:

- Publisher:

- Description:
- We present a catalogue of 1715 early-type galaxies from the literature, spanning the luminosity range from faint dwarf spheroidal galaxies to giant elliptical galaxies. The aim of this catalogue is to be one of the most comprehensive and publicly available collections of data on early-type galaxies. The emphasis in this catalogue lies on dwarf elliptical galaxies, for which some samples with detailed data have been published recently. For almost all of the early-type galaxies included in it, this catalogue contains data on their locations, distances, redshifts, half-light radii, the masses of their stellar populations and apparent magnitudes in various passbands. Data on metallicity and various colours are available for a majority of the galaxies presented here. The data on magnitudes, colours, metallicities and masses of the stellar populations is supplemented with entries that are based on fits to data from simple stellar population models and existing data from observations. Also, some simple transformations have been applied to the data on magnitudes, colours and metallicities in this catalog, in order to increase the homogeneity of this data. Estimates on the Sersic profiles, internal velocity dispersions, maximum rotational velocities, dynamical masses and ages are listed for several hundreds of the galaxies in this catalogue. Finally, each quantity listed in this catalogue is accompanied with information on its source, so that users of this catalogue can easily exclude data that they do not consider as reliable enough for their purposes.

- Description:
- We make use of the images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Stripe 82 (Stripe 82) to present an analysis of r band surface brightness profiles and radial color gradients (g-r, u-r) in our sample of 111 nearby early-type galaxies (ETGs). Thanks to the Stripe 82 images, each of which is co-added from about 50 single frames, we are able to pay special attention to the low-surface-brightness areas (LSB areas) of the galaxies.

- 875 nearby galaxies multiwavelength photometry

- Description:
- The DustPedia project is capitalising on the legacy of the Herschel Space Observatory, using cutting-edge modelling techniques to study dust in the 875 DustPedia galaxies - representing the vast majority of extended galaxies within 3000km/s that were observed by Herschel. This work requires a database of multiwavelength imagery and photometry that greatly exceeds the scope (in terms of wavelength coverage and number of galaxies) of any previous local-Universe survey. We constructed a database containing our own custom Herschel reductions, along with standardised archival observations from GALEX, SDSS, DSS, 2MASS, WISE, Spitzer, and Planck. Using these data, we performed consistent aperture-matched photometry, which we combined with external supplementary photometry from IRAS and Planck. We present our multiwavelength photometry across 40 UV-microwave bands for the 875 DustPedia galaxies. Our aperture-matched photometry, combined with the external supplementary photometry, represents a total of 21,857 photometric measurements. A typical DustPedia galaxy has multiwavelength photometry spanning 25 bands. To carry out our photometry we developed the Comprehensive & Adaptable Aperture Photometry Routine (CAAPR). CAAPR is designed to produce consistent photometry for the enormous range of galaxy and observation types in our data. In particular, CAAPR is able to determine robust cross-compatible uncertainties, thanks to a novel method for reliably extrapolating the aperture noise for observations that cover a very limited amount of background.
