- {alpha} Per cluster members

- Description:
- Because of its proximity to the Galactic plane, reliable identification of members of the {alpha} Persei cluster is often problematic. Based primarily on membership evaluations contained in six published papers, we constructed a mostly complete list of high-fidelity members of spectral type G and earlier that lie within 3 arc degrees of the cluster center. {alpha} Persei was the one nearby, rich, young open cluster not surveyed with the Spitzer Space Telescope. We examined the first and final data releases of the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and found 11, or perhaps 12, {alpha} Per cluster members that have excess mid-infrared emission above the stellar photosphere attributable to an orbiting dusty debris disk. The most unusual of these is V488 Per, a K-type star with an excess IR luminosity 16% (or more) of the stellar luminosity; this is a larger excess fraction than that of any other known dusty main-sequence star. Much of the dust that orbits V488 Per is at a temperature of ~800 K; if these grains radiate like blackbodies, then they lie only ~0.06 AU from the star. The dust is probably the aftermath of a collision of two planetary embryos or planets with small semimajor axes; such orbital radii are similar to those of many of the transiting planets discovered by the Kepler satellite.

- Description:
- We have obtained membership probabilities of stars within a field of from the centre of the open cluster alpha Persei using proper motions and photometry from the PPMXL and Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer catalogues. We have identified 810 possible stellar members of alpha Persei. We derived the global and radial present-day mass function (MF) of the cluster and found that they are well matched by two-stage power-law relations with different slopes at different radii. The global MF of alpha Persei shows a turnover at m=0.62M_{sun}_ with low- and high-mass slopes of {alpha}_low_=0.50+/-0.09 (0.1<m/M_{sun}_<0.62) and {alpha}_high_=2.32+/-0.14 (0.62<=m/M_{sun}_<4.68), respectively. The high-mass slope of the cluster increases from 2.01 inside 110 to 2.63 outside 22, whereas the mean stellar mass decreases from 0.95 to 0.57M_{sun}_ in the same regions, signifying clear evidence of mass segregation in the cluster. From an examination of the high-quality colour-magnitude data of the cluster and performing a series of Monte Carlo simulations, we obtained a binary fraction of fbin=34+/-12 per cent for stars with 0.70<m/M_{sun}_<4.68. This is significantly larger than the observed binary fraction, indicating that this open cluster contains a large population of unresolved binaries. Finally, we corrected the MF slopes for the effect of unresolved binaries and found low- and high-mass slopes of {alpha}_low_=0.89+/-0.11 and {alpha}_high_=2.37+/-0.09 and a total cluster mass of 352M_{sun}_ for alpha Persei.

- Description:
- Our scientific goal is to provide revised membership lists of the alpha Per, Pleiades, and Praesepe clusters exploiting the second data release of Gaia and produce five-dimensional maps ({alpha}, {delta}, {pi}, {mu}_{alpha}_cos{delta}, {mu}_{delta}_) of these clusters. We implemented the kinematic method combined with the statistical treatment of parallaxes and proper motions to identify astrometric member candidates of three of the most nearby and best studied open clusters in the sky. We cross-correlated the Gaia catalogue with large-scale public surveys to complement the astrometry of Gaia with multi-band photometry from the optical to the mid-infrared. We identified 517, 1248, and 721 bona fide astrometric member candidates inside the tidal radius of alpha Per, the Pleiades, and Praesepe, respectively. We cross-matched our final samples with catalogues from previous surveys to address the level of completeness. We update the main physical properties of the clusters, including mean distance and velocity, as well as core, half-mass, and tidal radii. We infer updated ages from the white dwarf members of the Pleiades and Praesepe. We derive the luminosity and mass functions of the three clusters and compare them to the field mass function. We compute the positions in space of all member candidates in the three regions to investigate their distribution in space. We provide updated distances and kinematics for the three clusters. We identify a list of members in the alpha Per, Pleiades, and Praesepe clusters from the most massive stars all the way down to the hydrogen-burning limit with a higher confidence and better astrometry than previous studies. We produce complete 5D maps of stellar and substellar bona fide members in these three regions. The photometric sequences derived in several colour-magnitude diagrams represent benchmark cluster sequences at ages from 90 to 600Myr. We note the presence of a stream around the Pleiades cluster extending up to 40 pc from the cluster centre.

- An astrometric catalogue of radio stars
- Short Name:
- V/67
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Astrometric data in the optical and radio spectral ranges have been assembled for some 200 radio stars which are considered promising objects for linkage of optical and radio frames. Astrophysical data have been added to support observational programmes and data analysis. The full catalogue, in its original form as the file "catalog.ori", contains explanations, followed by the data for each star organised as paragraphs (blocks of lines separated by a blank line). Each paragraph representing a radio star in this catalog consists of 17 categories of stellar parameters; each category may contain zero, one, or more records. The positions, proper motions and parallaxes in the optical and radio domains are assigned categories 1 to 7; categories 8 to 13 deal with photometrical and spectroscopical parameters, duplicity and variability descriptions; and categories 14 to 17 contain references to finding charts and radio maps, as well as remarks about observation priorities. A detailed description of these categories are present at the beginning of the "catalog.ori" file.

- APOGEE and Gaia DR2 analysis of IC 166
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/156/94
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- IC 166 is an intermediate-age open cluster (OC) (~1 Gyr) that lies in the transition zone of the metallicity gradient in the outer disk. Its location, combined with our very limited knowledge of its salient features, make it an interesting object of study. We present the first high-resolution spectroscopic and precise kinematical analysis of IC 166, which lies in the outer disk with R_GC_~12.7 kpc. High-resolution H-band spectra were analyzed using observations from the SDSS-IV Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment survey. We made use of the Brussels Automatic Stellar Parameter code to provide chemical abundances based on a line-by-line approach for up to eight chemical elements (Mg, Si, Ca, Ti, Al, K, Mn, and Fe). The {alpha}-element (Mg, Si, Ca, and whenever available Ti) abundances, and their trends with Fe abundances have been analyzed for a total of 13 high-likelihood cluster members. No significant abundance scatter was found in any of the chemical species studied. Combining the positional, heliocentric distance, and kinematic information, we derive, for the first time, the probable orbit of IC 166 within a Galactic model including a rotating boxy bar, and found that it is likely that IC 166 formed in the Galactic disk, supporting its nature as an unremarkable Galactic OC with an orbit bound to the Galactic plane.

- APOGEE DR14:Binary companions of evolved stars
- Short Name:

- Date:

- Publisher:

- Description:
- Multi-epoch radial velocity measurements of stars can be used to identify stellar, substellar, and planetary-mass companions. Even a small number of observation epochs can be informative about companions, though there can be multiple qualitatively different orbital solutions that fit the data. We have custom-built a Monte Carlo sampler (The Joker) that delivers reliable (and often highly multimodal) posterior samplings for companion orbital parameters given sparse radial velocity data. Here we use The Joker to perform a search for companions to 96231 red giant stars observed in the APOGEE survey (DR14) with >=3 spectroscopic epochs. We select stars with probable companions by making a cut on our posterior belief about the amplitude of the variation in stellar radial velocity induced by the orbit. We provide (1) a catalog of 320 companions for which the stellar companion's properties can be confidently determined, (2) a catalog of 4898 stars that likely have companions, but would require more observations to uniquely determine the orbital properties, and (3) posterior samplings for the full orbital parameters for all stars in the parent sample. We show the characteristics of systems with confidently determined companion properties and highlight interesting systems with candidate compact object companions.

- APOGEE parameters through 83 open clusters
- Short Name:

- Description:
- The chemical homogeneity of surviving stellar clusters contains important clues about interstellar medium (ISM) mixing efficiency, star formation, and the enrichment history of the Galaxy. Existing measurements in a handful of open clusters suggest homogeneity in several elements at the 0.03dex level. Here we present (I) a new cluster member catalog based only on APOGEE radial velocities and Gaia-DR2 proper motions, (II) improved abundance uncertainties for APOGEE cluster members, and (III) the dependence of cluster homogeneity on Galactic and cluster properties, using abundances of eight elements from the APOGEE survey for 10 high-quality clusters. We find that cluster homogeneity is uncorrelated with Galactocentric distance, |Z|, age, and metallicity. However, velocity dispersion, which is a proxy for cluster mass, is positively correlated with intrinsic scatter at relatively high levels of significance for [Ca/Fe] and [Mg/Fe]. We also see a possible positive correlation at a low level of significance for [Ni/Fe], [Si/Fe], [Al/Fe], and [Fe/H], while [Cr/Fe] and [Mn/Fe] are uncorrelated. The elements that show a correlation with velocity dispersion are those that are predominantly produced by core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe). However, the small sample size and relatively low correlation significance highlight the need for follow-up studies. If borne out by future studies, these findings would suggest a quantitative difference between the correlation lengths of elements produced predominantly by Type Ia SNe versus CCSNe, which would have implications for Galactic chemical evolution models and the feasibility of chemical tagging.

- APOGEE-2 survey of Orion Complex. II.
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/156/84
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present an analysis of spectroscopic and astrometric data from APOGEE-2 and Gaia DR2 (Cat. I/345) to identify structures toward the Orion Complex. By applying a hierarchical clustering algorithm to the six-dimensional stellar data, we identify spatially and/or kinematically distinct groups of young stellar objects with ages ranging from 1 to 12 Myr. We also investigate the star-forming history within the Orion Complex and identify peculiar subclusters. With this method we reconstruct the older populations in the regions that are currently largely devoid of molecular gas, such as Orion C (which includes the {sigma} Ori cluster) and Orion D (the population that traces Ori OB1a, OB1b, and Orion X). We report on the distances, kinematics, and ages of the groups within the Complex. The Orion D group is in the process of expanding. On the other hand, Orion B is still in the process of contraction. In {lambda} Ori the proper motions are consistent with a radial expansion due to an explosion from a supernova; the traceback age from the expansion exceeds the age of the youngest stars formed near the outer edges of the region, and their formation would have been triggered when they were halfway from the cluster center to their current positions. We also present a comparison between the parallax and proper-motion solutions obtained by Gaia DR2 and those obtained toward star-forming regions by the Very Long Baseline Array.

- ASAS-SN catalog of variable stars
- Short Name:

- Description:
- The All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) is the first optical survey to routinely monitor the whole sky with a cadence of ~2-3d down to V<~17mag. ASAS-SN has monitored the whole sky since 2014, collecting ~100-500 epochs of observations per field. The V-band light curves for candidate variables identified during the search for supernovae are classified using a random forest classifier and visually verified. In Paper I (Jayasinghe+ 2018MNRAS.477.3145J), we present a catalogue of 66179 bright, new variable stars discovered during our search for supernovae, including 27479 periodic variables and 38700 irregular variables. In paper II (Jayasinghe+ 2019MNRAS.486.1907J), We extracted the ASAS-SN light curves of ~412000 variable stars previously discovered by other surveys and in the VSX catalogue. In paper III (Jayasinghe+ 2019MNRAS.485..961J), we extracted the ASAS-SN light curves of ~1.3 million sources within 18deg of the Southern Ecliptic Pole. These sources are within the southern TESS CVZ and will have well-sampled TESS light curves.

- Description:
- The ESA PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO) mission will search for terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars. Because of telemetry limitations PLATO targets need to be pre-selected. In this paper we present an all sky catalog that will be fundamental to select the best PLATO fields and the most promising target stars, derive their fundamental parameters, analyze the instrumental performances and then plan and optimize follow-up observations. This catalog also represents a valuable resource for the general definition of stellar samples optimized for the search of transiting planets. We used Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) astrometry and photometry and 3D maps of the local interstellar medium to isolate FGK (V<=13) and M(V<=16) dwarfs and subgiant stars. We present the first public release of the all sky PLATO Input Catalog (asPIC1.1) containing a total of 2675539 stars among which 2378177 FGK dwarfs and subgiants and 297362 M dwarfs. The median distance in our sample is 428pc for FGK stars and 146 pc for M dwarfs, respectively. We derived the reddening of our targets and developed an algorithm to estimate stellar fundamental parameters (Teff, radius, mass) from astrometric and photometric measurements. We show that our overall (internal+external) uncertainties on the stellar parameters determination is ~230K (4%) for the effective temperatures, ~0.1R_{sun}_ (9%) for the stellar radii and ~0.1M_{sun}_ (11%) for the stellar mass. We release a special target list containing all known planet hosts cross-matched with our catalog.
