We performed a radio recombination line (RRL) survey to construct a high-mass star-forming region (HMSFR) sample in the Milky Way based on the all-sky Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer point-source catalog. The survey was observed with the Shanghai 65m Tianma radio telescope covering 10 hydrogen RRL transitions ranging from H98{alpha} to H113{alpha} (corresponding to the rest frequencies of 4.5-6.9GHz) simultaneously. Out of 3348 selected targets, we identified an HMSFR sample consisting of 517 sources traced by RRLs; a large fraction of this sample (486) is located near the Galactic Plane (|b|<2{deg}). In addition to the hydrogen RRLs, we also detected helium and carbon RRLs toward 49 and 23 sources, respectively. We crossmatch the RRL detections with the 6.7 methanol maser sources built up in previous works for the same target sample. As a result, 103 HMSFR sources were found to harbor both emissions. In this paper, we present the HMSFR catalog accompanied by the measured RRL line properties and a correlation with our methanol maser sample, which is believed to trace massive stars at earlier stages. The construction of an HMSFR sample consisting of sources in various evolutionary stages indicated by different tracers is fundamental for future studies of high-mass star formation in such regions.

ALMA Cycle 2 observations of long-wavelength dust emission in 145 star-forming galaxies are used to probe the evolution of the star-forming interstellar medium (ISM). We also develop a physical basis and empirical calibration (with 72 low-z and z~2 galaxies) for using the dust continuum as a quantitative probe of ISM masses. The galaxies with the highest star formation rates (SFRs) at <z>=2.2 and 4.4 have gas masses up to 100 times that of the Milky Way and gas mass fractions reaching 50%-80%, i.e., gas masses 1-4x their stellar masses. We find a single high-z star formation law: SFR=35 M_mol_^0.89^x(1+z)_z=2_^0.95^x(sSFR)_MS_^0.23^ M_{sun}_/yr - an approximately linear dependence on the ISM mass and an increased star formation efficiency per unit gas mass at higher redshift. Galaxies above the main sequence (MS) have larger gas masses but are converting their ISM into stars on a timescale only slightly shorter than those on the MS; thus, these "starbursts" are largely the result of having greatly increased gas masses rather than an increased efficiency of converting gas to stars. At z>1, the entire population of star-forming galaxies has ~2-5 times shorter gas depletion times than low-z galaxies. These shorter depletion times indicate a different mode of star formation in the early universe - most likely dynamically driven by compressive, high-dispersion gas motions - a natural consequence of the high gas accretion rates.

As a building block for amino acids, formamide (NH_2_CHO) is an important molecule in astrobiology and astrochemistry, but its formation path in the interstellar medium is not understood well. We aim to find empirical evidence to support the chemical relationships of formamide to HNCO and H_2_CO. We examine high angular resolution (~0.2") Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) maps of six sources in three high-mass star-forming regions and compare the spatial extent, integrated emission peak position, and velocity structure of HNCO and H_2_CO line emission with that of NH_2_CHO by using moment maps. Through spectral modeling, we compare the abundances of these three species. In these sources, the emission peak separation and velocity dispersion of formamide emission is most often similar to HNCO emission, while the velocity structure is generally just as similar to H_2_CO and HNCO (within errors). From the spectral modeling, we see that the abundances between all three of our focus species are correlated, and the relationship between NH_2_CHO and HNCO reproduces the previously demonstrated abundance relationship. In this first interferometric study, which compares two potential parent species to NH_2_CHO, we find that all moment maps for HNCO are more similar to NH_2_CHO than H_2_CO in one of our six sources (G24 A1). For the other five sources, the relationship between NH_2_CHO, HNCO, and H_2_CO is unclear as the different moment maps for each source are not consistently more similar to one species as opposed to the other.

We report Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 6 continuum observations of 2000au resolution toward four massive molecular clouds in the Central Molecular Zone of the Galaxy. To study gas fragmentation, we use the dendrogram method to identify cores as traced by the dust continuum emission. The four clouds exhibit different fragmentation states at the observed resolution despite having similar masses at the cloud scale (~1-5pc). Assuming a constant dust temperature of 20K, we construct core mass functions of the clouds and find a slightly top-heavy shape as compared to the canonical initial mass function, but we note several significant uncertainties that may affect this result. The characteristic spatial separation between the cores as identified by the minimum spanning tree method, ~10^4^au, and the characteristic core mass, 1-7M_{sun}_, are consistent with predictions of thermal Jeans fragmentation. The three clouds showing fragmentation may be forming OB associations (stellar mass ~10^3^M_{sun}_). None of the four clouds under investigation seem to be currently able to form massive star clusters like the Arches and the Quintuplet (>~10^4^M_{sun}_), but they may form such clusters by further gas accretion onto the cores.

The relative column densities of the structural isomers methyl formate, glycolaldehyde, and acetic acid are derived for a dozen positions toward the massive star-forming regions MM1 and MM2 in the NGC 6334I complex, which are separated by ~4000au. Relative column densities of these molecules are also gathered from the literature for 13 other star-forming regions. In this combined data set, a clear bimodal distribution is observed in the relative column densities of glycolaldehyde and methyl formate. No such distribution is evident with acetic acid. The two trends are comprised of star-forming regions with a variety of masses, suggesting that there must be some other common parameter that is heavily impacting the formation of glycolaldehyde. This is indicative of some demonstrable differentiation in these cores; studying the abundances of these isomers may provide a clue as to the integral chemical processes ongoing in a variety of protostellar environments.

The ALMA Survey of 70{mu}m dark High-mass clumps in Early Stages (ASHES) is designed to systematically characterize the earliest stages and constrain theories of high-mass star formation. Twelve massive (>500M_{sun}_), cold (<=15K), 3.6-70{mu}m dark prestellar clump candidates, embedded in infrared dark clouds, were carefully selected in the pilot survey to be observed with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We have mosaicked each clump (~1arcmin^2^) in continuum and line emission with the 12m, 7m, and Total Power (TP) arrays at 224GHz (1.34mm), resulting in ~1.2" resolution (~4800au, at the average source distance). As the first paper in the series, we concentrate on the continuum emission to reveal clump fragmentation. We detect 294 cores, from which 84 (29%) are categorized as protostellar based on outflow activity or "warm core" line emission. The remaining 210 (71%) are considered prestellar core candidates. The number of detected cores is independent of the mass sensitivity range of the observations and, on average, more massive clumps tend to form more cores. We find a large population of low-mass (<1M_{sun}_) cores and no high-mass (>30M_{sun}_) prestellar cores (maximum mass 11M_{sun}_). From the prestellar core mass function, we derive a power-law index of 1.17+/-0.10, which is slightly shallower than Salpeter. We used the minimum spanning tree (MST) technique to characterize the separation between cores and their spatial distribution, and to derive mass segregation ratios. While there is a range of core masses and separations detected in the sample, the mean separation and mass per clump are well explained by thermal Jeans fragmentation and are inconsistent with turbulent Jeans fragmentation. Core spatial distribution is well described by hierarchical subclustering rather than centrally peaked clustering. There is no conclusive evidence of mass segregation. We test several theoretical conditions and conclude that overall, competitive accretion and global hierarchical collapse scenarios are favored over the turbulent core accretion scenario.

The ALMaQUEST (ALMA-MaNGA QUEnching and STar formation) survey is a program with spatially resolved 12CO(1-0) measurements obtained with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) for 46 galaxies selected from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) DR15 optical integral-field spectroscopic survey. The aim of the ALMaQUEST survey is to investigate the dependence of star formation activity on the cold molecular gas content at kiloparsec scales in nearby galaxies. The sample consists of galaxies spanning a wide range in specific star formation rate (sSFR), including starburst (SB), main-sequence (MS), and green valley (GV) galaxies. In this paper, we present the sample selection and characteristics of the ALMA observations and showcase some of the key results enabled by the combination of spatially matched stellar populations and gas measurements. Considering the global (aperture-matched) stellar mass, molecular gas mass, and star formation rate of the sample, we find that the sSFR depends on both the star formation efficiency (SFE) and the molecular gas fraction (f_H_2__), although the correlation with the latter is slightly weaker. Furthermore, the dependence of sSFR on the molecular gas content (SFE or f_H_2__) is stronger than that on either the atomic gas fraction or the molecular-to-atomic gas fraction, albeit with the small Hi sample size. On kiloparsec scales, the variations in both SFE and f_H_2__ within individual galaxies can be as large as 1-2dex, thereby demonstrating that the availability of spatially resolved observations is essential to understand the details of both star formation and quenching processes.

We present Atacama Large Millimeter/Sub-Millimeter Array (ALMA) Band 6 observations of a complete sample of protoplanetary disks in the young (~1-3Myr) Lupus star-forming region, covering the 1.33mm continuum and the ^12^CO, ^13^CO, and C^18^O J=2-1 lines. The spatial resolution is ~0.25" with a medium 3{sigma} continuum sensitivity of 0.30mJy, corresponding to Mdust ~0.2M_{Earth}_. We apply Keplerian masking to enhance the signal-to-noise ratios of our ^12^CO zero-moment maps, enabling measurements of gas disk radii for 22 Lupus disks; we find that gas disks are universally larger than millimeter dust disks by a factor of two on average, likely due to a combination of the optically thick gas emission and the growth and inward drift of the dust. Using the gas disk radii, we calculate the dimensionless viscosity parameter, {alpha}_visc_, finding a broad distribution and no correlations with other disk or stellar parameters, suggesting that viscous processes have not yet established quasi-steady states in Lupus disks. By combining our 1.33mm continuum fluxes with our previous 890{mu}m continuum observations, we also calculate the millimeter spectral index, {alpha}_mm_, for 70 Lupus disks; we find an anticorrelation between {alpha}_mm_ and millimeter flux for low-mass disks (M_dust_<~5), followed by a flattening as disks approach {alpha}_mm_~2, which could indicate faster grain growth in higher-mass disks, but may also reflect their larger optically thick components. In sum, this work demonstrates the continuous stream of new insights into disk evolution and planet formation that can be gleaned from unbiased ALMA disk surveys.

Planck Galactic Cold Clumps (PGCCs) are considered to be the ideal targets to probe the early phases of star formation. We have conducted a survey of 72 young dense cores inside PGCCs in the Orion complex with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) at 1.3mm (band 6) using three different configurations (resolutions ~0.35", 1.0", and 7.0") to statistically investigate their evolutionary stages and substructures. We have obtained images of the 1.3mm continuum and molecular line emission (^12^CO, and SiO) at an angular resolution of ~0.35" (~140au) with the combined arrays. We find 70 substructures within 48 detected dense cores with median dust mass ~0.093M_{sun}_ and deconvolved size ~0.27". Dense substructures are clearly detected within the central 1000au of four candidate prestellar cores. The sizes and masses of the substructures in continuum emission are found to be significantly reduced with protostellar evolution from Class 0 to Class I. We also study the evolutionary change in the outflow characteristics through the course of protostellar mass accretion. A total of 37 sources exhibit CO outflows, and 20 (>50%) show high-velocity jets in SiO. The CO velocity extents ({Delta}Vs) span from 4 to 110km/s with outflow cavity opening angle width at 400au ranging from [{Theta}_obs_]_400_~0.6"-3.9", which corresponds to 33.4{deg}-125.7{deg}. For the majority of the outflow sources, the {Delta}Vs show a positive correlation with [{Theta}_obs_]_400_, suggesting that as protostars undergo gravitational collapse, the cavity opening of a protostellar outflow widens and the protostars possibly generate more energetic outflows.

We present an analysis of spectroscopic and astrometric data from APOGEE-2 and Gaia DR2 (Cat. I/345) to identify structures toward the Orion Complex. By applying a hierarchical clustering algorithm to the six-dimensional stellar data, we identify spatially and/or kinematically distinct groups of young stellar objects with ages ranging from 1 to 12 Myr. We also investigate the star-forming history within the Orion Complex and identify peculiar subclusters. With this method we reconstruct the older populations in the regions that are currently largely devoid of molecular gas, such as Orion C (which includes the {sigma} Ori cluster) and Orion D (the population that traces Ori OB1a, OB1b, and Orion X). We report on the distances, kinematics, and ages of the groups within the Complex. The Orion D group is in the process of expanding. On the other hand, Orion B is still in the process of contraction. In {lambda} Ori the proper motions are consistent with a radial expansion due to an explosion from a supernova; the traceback age from the expansion exceeds the age of the youngest stars formed near the outer edges of the region, and their formation would have been triggered when they were halfway from the cluster center to their current positions. We also present a comparison between the parallax and proper-motion solutions obtained by Gaia DR2 and those obtained toward star-forming regions by the Very Long Baseline Array.
