- With only a few low- and high-mass star-formation regions studied in detail so far, it is unclear what role the environment plays in complex molecule formation. In this light, a comparison of relative abundances of related species between sources might be useful for explaining any observed differences. We seek to measure the relative abundance between three important complex organic molecules, ethylene glycol ((CH_2_OH)_2_), glycolaldehyde (CH_2_OHCHO) and methyl formate (HCOOCH_3_), toward high-mass protostars and thereby provide additional constraints on their formation pathways. We use IRAM30 m single-dish observations of the three species toward two high-mass star-forming regions - W51/e2 and G34.3+0.2 - and report a tentative detection of (CH_2_OH)_2_ toward both sources.

- We have conducted a sensitive search down to the hydrogen burning limit for unextincted stars over ~200 square degrees around Lambda Orionis and 20 square degrees around Sigma Orionis using the methodology of Koenig & Leisawitz (2014ApJ...791..131K; K14). From WISE and 2MASS data we identify 544 and 418 candidate young stellar objects (YSOs) in the vicinity of {lambda} and {sigma} respectively. Based on our followup spectroscopy for some candidates and the existing literature for others, we found that ~80% of the K14-selected candidates are probable or likely members of the Orion star-forming region. The yield from the photometric selection criteria shows that WISE sources with K_S_-w3>1.5mag and K_S_ between 10 and 12mag are most likely to show spectroscopic signs of youth, while WISE sources with K_S_-w3>4mag and K_s_>12 were often active galactic nuclei when followed up spectroscopically. The population of candidate YSOs traces known areas of active star formation, with a few new "hot spots" of activity near Lynds 1588 and 1589 and a more dispersed population of YSOs in the northern half of the HII region bubble around {sigma} and {epsilon} Ori. A minimal spanning tree analysis of the two regions to identify stellar groupings finds that roughly two-thirds of the YSO candidates in each region belong to groups of 5 or more members. The population of stars selected by WISE outside the MST groupings also contains spectroscopically verified YSOs, with a local stellar density as low as 0.5 stars per square degree.

- We present a radio continuum survey at 1400 and 350 MHz of a region of 2{deg}x2{deg} centered on the Cygnus OB2 association (d=1.7kpc), using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) with angular resolutions of, respectively, 13" and 55". The resulting 5{sigma} flux-density limits of, respectively, ~2mJy and ~10-15mJy are a significant improvement over previous surveys. We detected 210 discrete sources with sizes less than 1.9{theta}beam (beam size), 98 of which at both frequencies. We also detected 28 resolved sources (sizes>1.9{theta}beam) still having well-defined peak intensities. The observed spectral index {alpha}^1400^_350_ distribution and source count strongly suggest an excess of sources of Galactic origin in the direction of Cyg OB2.

- The {chi}^1^ Fornacis cluster (Alessi 13) is one of a few open clusters of its age and distance in the Solar neighbourhood that ought to benefit from more attention as it can serve as a cornerstone for numerous future studies related to star and planet formation. Aims: We take advantage of the early installment of the third data release of the Gaia space mission in combination with archival data and our own observations, to expand the census of cluster members and revisit some properties of the cluster. Methods: We applied a probabilistic method to infer membership probabilities over a field of more than 1000deg^2^ to select the most likely cluster members and derive the distances, spatial velocities, and physical properties of the stars in this sample. Results: We identify 164 high-probability cluster members (including 61 new members) covering the magnitude range from 5.1 to 19.6mag in the G-band. Our sample of cluster members is complete down to 0.04M_{sun}_. We derive the distance of 108.4+/-0.3pc from Bayesian inference and confirm that the cluster is comoving with the Tucana-Horologium, Columba, and Carina young stellar associations. We investigate the kinematics of the cluster from a subsample of stars with measured radial velocities and we do not detect any significant expansion or rotation effects in the cluster. Our results suggest that the cluster is somewhat younger (about 30Myr) than previously thought. Based on spectroscopic observations, we argue that the cluster is mass-segregated and that the distribution of spectral types shows little variation compared to other young stellar groups. Conclusions: In this study, we deliver the most complete census of cluster members that can be done with Gaia data alone and we use this new sample to provide an updated picture on the 6D structure of the cluster.

- The XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST) surveys the most populated ~5 square degrees of the Taurus Molecular Cloud, using the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory to study the thermal structure, variability, and long-term evolution of hot plasma, to investigate the magnetic dynamo, and to search for new potential members of the association. We present overall correlations with fundamental stellar parameters that were derived from the previous literature. The present overview paper introduces the project and provides the basic results from the X-ray analysis of all sources detected in the XEST survey. Comprehensive tables summarize the stellar properties of all targets surveyed. The survey goes deeper than previous X-ray surveys of Taurus by about an order of magnitude and for the first time systematically accesses very faint and strongly absorbed TMC objects. We find a detection rate of 85% and 98% for classical and weak-line T Tauri stars (CTTS resp. WTTS), and identify about half of the surveyed protostars and brown dwarfs. Overall, 136 out of 169 surveyed stellar systems are detected. We describe an X-ray luminosity vs. mass correlation, discuss the distribution of X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratios, and show evidence for lower X-ray luminosities in CTTS compared to WTTS.

- The physical origin of the strong magnetic activity in T Tauri stars and its relation to stellar rotation is not yet well-understood. We investigate the relation between the X-ray activity, rotation, and Rossby number for a sample of young stars in the ~3Myr old cluster IC 348. We use the data of four Chandra observations of IC 348 to derive the X-ray luminosities of the young stars. Basic stellar parameters and rotation rates are collected from the literature. This results in a sample of 82 X-ray detected stars with known rotation periods. We determine the Rossby numbers (i.e. the ratio of rotation period to convective turnover time) of 76 of these stars from stellar structure- and evolution-models for pre-main sequence stars.

- We characterize individual and ensemble properties of X-ray flares from stars in the Cygnus OB2 and ONC star-forming regions. We analyzed X-ray light-curves of 1003 Cygnus OB2 sources observed with Chandra for 100ks and of 1616 ONC sources detected in the "Chandra Orion Ultra-deep Project" 850ks observation. We employed a binning-free maximum likelihood method to segment the light-curves into intervals of constants signal and identified flares on the basis of both the amplitude and the time-derivative of the source luminosity. We then derived and compared the flare frequency and energy distribution of Cygnus OB2 and ONC sources. The effect of the length of the observation on these results was investigated by repeating the statistical analysis on five 100ks-long segments extracted from the ONC data.

- The Canis Major OB1 association has an intriguing scenario of star formation, especially in the region called Canis Major R1 (CMa R1) traditionally assigned to a reflection nebula, but in reality an ionized region. This work is focussed on the young stellar population associated with CMa R1, for which our previous results from ROSAT, optical, and near-infrared data had revealed two stellar groups with different ages, suggesting a possible mixing of populations originated from distinct star formation episodes. The X-ray data allow the detected sources to be characterized according to hardness ratios, light curves, and spectra. Estimates of mass and age were obtained from the 2MASS catalogue and used to define a complete subsample of stellar counterparts for statistical purposes. A catalogue of 387 XMM-Newton sources is provided, of which 78% are confirmed as members or probable members of the CMa R1 association. Flares (or similar events) were observed for 13 sources and the spectra of 21 bright sources could be fitted by a thermal plasma model. Mean values of fits parameters were used to estimate X-ray luminosities. We found a minimum value of log(L_X_[erg/s])=29.43, indicating that our sample of low-mass stars (M*<=0.5 M_{sun}_), which are faint X-ray emitters, is incomplete. Among the 250 objects selected as our complete subsample (defining our "best sample"), 171 are found to the east of the cloud, near Z CMa and dense molecular gas, of which 50% of them are young (<5Myr) and 30% are older (>10Myr). The opposite happens to the west, near GU CMa, in areas lacking molecular gas: among 79 objects, 30% are young and 50% are older. These findings confirm that a first episode of distributed star formation occurred in the whole studied region ~10Myr ago and dispersed the molecular gas, while a second, localized episode (<5Myr) took place in the regions where molecular gas is still present.

- We present a catalogue of 1696 X-ray sources detected in the massive star forming region (SFR) Cygnus OB2 and extracted from two archival Chandra observations of the center of the region. A deep source extraction routine, exploiting the low background rates of Chandra observations was employed to maximize the number of sources extracted. Observations at other wavelengths were used to identify low count-rate sources and remove likely spurious sources. Monte Carlo simulations were also used to assess the authenticity of these sources. X-ray spectra were fitted with thermal plasma models to characterize the objects and X-ray light curves were analyzed to determine their variability. We used a Bayesian technique to identify optical or near-IR counterparts for 1501 (89%) of our sources, using deep observations from the INT Photometric H-alpha Survey, the Two Micron All Sky Survey, and the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey-Galactic plane Survey. 755 (45%) of these objects have six-band r', H-alpha, i', J, H, and K optical and near-IR photometry. From an analysis of the Poisson false-source probabilities for each source we estimate that our X-ray catalogue includes <1% of false sources, and an even lower fraction when only sources with optical or near-IR associations are considered. A Monte Carlo simulation of the Bayesian matching scheme allows this method to be compared to more simplified matching techniques and enables the various sources of error to be quantified. The catalogue of 1696 objects presented here includes X-ray broad band fluxes, model fits, and optical and near-IR photometry in what is one of the largest X-ray catalogue of a single SFR to date. The high number of stellar X-ray sources detected from relatively shallow observations confirms the status and importance of Cygnus OB2 as one of our Galaxy's most massive SFRs.

- The distribution of young stars found in the Chandra Carina Complex Project (CCCP) is examined for clustering structure. X-ray surveys are advantageous for identifying young stellar populations compared to optical and infrared surveys in suffering less contamination from nebular emission and Galactic field stars. The analysis is based on smoothed maps of a spatially complete subsample of ~3000 brighter X-ray sources classified as Carina members and ~10000 stars from the full CCCP sample. The principal known clusters are recovered, and some additional smaller groups are identified. No rich embedded clusters are present, although a number of sparse groups are found. The CCCP reveals considerable complexity in clustering properties.
