- The First-Look Survey (FLS) of the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) will cover about 5deg^2^ centered on J2000.0 (17:18+59:30) in order to characterize the extragalactic infrared sky 2 orders of magnitude deeper than the IRAS survey. We expect that most of the FLS far-infrared ({lambda} = 160, 70, and 24 {mu}m) sources will be star-forming galaxies obeying the very tight far-infrared/radio correlation and will be continuum radio sources with flux densities S>~100{mu}Jy at {nu}=1.4GHz. Conversely, radio sources stronger than 100{mu}Jy are usually powered by star-forming galaxies, plus some active galactic nuclei, and most should be detectable by the SIRTF FLS. Thus, a sensitive radio survey can be used to select and identify most of the SIRTF FLS source population before launch. We used the B configuration of the VLA to make an image of the FLS area at {nu}=1.4GHz with {sigma}=~23{mu}Jy/beam rms fluctuations, {theta}=5'' resolution, and {sigma}_{alpha}_=~{sigma}_{delta}_=~0.5'' rms uncertainties in right ascension and declination. The resulting radio image and catalog of 3565 radio components with peak flux densities Sp>=5{sigma}=115{mu}Jy/beam have been released via the Web to expedite follow-up optical identification and spectroscopy.

- This paper presents the sixth part of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) Calibrator Survey. It contains the positions and maps of 264 sources of which 169 were not previously observed with very long baseline interferometry. This survey, based on two 24h VLBA observing sessions, was focused on (1) improving positions of 95 sources from previous VLBA Calibrator Surveys that were observed either with very large a priori position errors or were observed not long enough to get reliable positions and (2) observing remaining new flat-spectrum sources with predicted correlated flux density in the range 100-200mJy that were not observed in previous surveys. Source positions were derived from astrometric analysis of group delays determined at the 2.3 and 8.6GHz frequency bands using the Calc/Solve software package. The VCS6 catalog of source positions, plots of correlated flux density versus projected baseline length, contour plots and fits files of naturally weighted CLEAN images, as well as calibrated visibility function files, are available on the Web at http://vlbi.gsfc.nasa.gov/vcs6.

- Backreactions from large-scale inhomogeneities may provide an elegant explanation for the observed accelerated expansion of the universe without the need to introduce dark energy. We propose a cosmological test for a specific model of inhomogeneous cosmology, called timescape cosmology. Using large-scale galaxy surveys such as SDSS and 2MRS, we test the variation of expansion expected in the {Lambda}-CDM model versus a more generic differential expansion using our own calibrations of bounds suggested by timescape cosmology. Our test measures the systematic variations of the Hubble flow towards distant galaxies groups as a function of the matter distribution in the lines of sight to those galaxy groups. We compare the observed systematic variation of the Hubble flow to mock catalogues from the Millennium Simulation in the case of the {Lambda}-CDM model, and a deformed version of the same simulation that exhibits more pronounced differential expansion. We perform a series of statistical tests, ranging from linear regressions to Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, on the obtained data. They consistently yield results preferring {Lambda}-CDM cosmology over our approximated model of timescape cosmology. Our analysis of observational data shows no evidence that the variation of expansion differs from that of the standard {Lambda}-CDM model.

- We present a rest-frame ultraviolet analysis of ~120 z~3.1 Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs) in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. Using Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images taken as part of the Galaxy Evolution From Morphology and SEDS (GEMS) survey, Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS), and Hubble Ultradeep Field surveys, we analyze the sizes of LAEs, as well as the spatial distribution of their components, which are defined as distinct clumps of UV-continuum emission. We set an upper limit of ~1kpc (~0.1") on the rms offset between the centroids of the continuum and Ly{alpha} emission. Most of the multi-component LAEs identified in shallow frames become connected in deeper images, suggesting that the majority of the rest-UV "clumps" are individual star-forming regions within a single system.

- The SKYMAP Star Catalog System consists of a Master Catalog stellar database and a collection of utility software designed to create and maintain the database and to generate derivative mission star catalogs (run catalogs). It contains an extensive compilation of information on almost 300000 stars brighter than 8.0 mag. The original SKYMAP Master Catalog was generated in the early 1970's. Incremental updates and corrections were made over the following years but the first complete revision of the source data occurred with Version 4.0. This revision also produced a unique, consolidated source of astrometric information which can be used by the astronomical community. The derived quantities were removed and wideband and photometric data in the R (red) and I (infrared) systems were added. Version 3 of the SKY2000 Master Catalog was completed in May of 2000 and represents an incremental but substantial improvement over Version 2 (Cat. <V/102>). A global replacement of photovisual (ptv) and photographic (ptg) magnitudes and of Henry Draper spectral types was performed using as sources the SAO Catalog, the PPM catalogs, and the HD catalogs. Several hundred entries previously lacking them now have CCD ST magnitudes from the star tracker onboard the SWAS spacecraft (transformed to the photometric system defined by the RXTE CCD ST data in SKY2000 Version 2). Several thousand missing HD catalog identifiers (mostly for HD Extension stars) were added, and several hundred missing variable star identifiers were added. 61 stars bright enough for inclusion in SKY2000 were added, bringing the total number of entries in the SKY2000 Version 3 Master Catalog to 299,160 (299,161 in Rev. 1).

- We present the first data release of the SkyMapper Southern Survey, a hemispheric survey carried out with the SkyMapper Telescope at Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Here, we present the survey strategy, data processing, catalogue construction, and database schema. The first data release dataset includes over 66000 images from the Shallow Survey component, covering an area of 17200 deg^2^ in all six SkyMapper passbands uvgriz, while the full area covered by any passband exceeds 20000 deg^2^. The catalogues contain over 285 million unique astrophysical objects, complete to roughly 18mag in all bands. We compare our griz point-source photometry with Pan-STARRS1 first data release and note an RMS scatter of 2%. The internal reproducibility of SkyMapper photometry is on the order of 1%. Astrometric precision is better than 0.2arcsec based on comparison with Gaia first data release. We describe the end-user database, through which data are presented to the world community, and provide some illustrative science queries.

- The SkyMapper Southern Sky Survey is carrying out a search for the most metal-poor stars in the Galaxy. It identifies candidates by way of its unique filter set which allows for estimation of stellar atmospheric parameters. The set includes a narrow filter centered on the CaII K 3933{AA} line, enabling a robust estimate of stellar metallicity. Promising candidates are then confirmed with spectroscopy. We present the analysis of Magellan Inamori Kyocera Echelle high-resolution spectroscopy of 122 metal-poor stars found by SkyMapper in the first two years of commissioning observations. Forty-one stars have [Fe/H]<=-3.0. Nine have [Fe/H]<=-3.5, with three at [Fe/H]~-4. A 1D LTE abundance analysis of the elements Li, C, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Sr, Ba, and Eu shows these stars have [X/Fe] ratios typical of other halo stars. One star with low [X/Fe] values appears to be "Fe-enhanced", while another star has an extremely large [Sr/Ba] ratio: >2 Only one other star is known to have a comparable value. Seven stars are "CEMP-no" stars ([C/Fe]>0.7, [Ba/Fe]<0). 21 stars exhibit mild r-process element enhancements (0.3<=[Eu/Fe]<1.0), while four stars have [Eu/Fe]>=1.0. These results demonstrate the ability to identify extremely metal-poor stars from SkyMapper photometry, pointing to increased sample sizes and a better characterization of the metal-poor tail of the halo metallicity distribution function in the future.

The SKY2000 Version 5 Revision 4 Master Catalog differs from Revision 3 in that MK and HD spectral types have been added from the Catalogue of Stellar Spectral Classifications (B. A. Skiff of Lowell Observatory, 2005), which has been assigned source code 50 in this process. 9622 entries now have MK types from this source, while 3976 entries have HD types from this source. SKY2000 V5 R4 also differs globally from preceding MC versions in that the Galactic coordinate computations performed by UPDATE have been increased in accuracy, so that differences from the same quantities from other sources are now typically in the last decimal places carried in the MC. This version supersedes the previous versions 1(V/95), 2(V/102), 3(V/105) and 4(V/109).
