- Asteroseismology is witnessing a revolution, thanks to high-precise asteroseismic space data (MOST, COROT, Kepler, BRITE) and their large ground-based follow-up programs. Those instruments have provided an unprecedented large amount of information, which allows us to scrutinize its statistical properties in the quest for hidden relations among pulsational and/or physical observables. This approach might be particularly useful for stars whose pulsation content is difficult to interpret. This is the case of intermediate-mass classical pulsating stars (i.e. {gamma} Dor, {delta} Scuti, hybrids) for which current theories do not properly predict the observed oscillation spectra. Here, we establish a first step in finding such hidden relations from data mining techniques for these stars. We searched for those hidden relations in a sample of {delta} Scuti and hybrid stars observed by COROT and Kepler (74 and 153, respectively). No significant correlations between pairs of observables were found. However, two statistically significant correlations emerged from multivariable correlations in the observed seismic data, which describe the total number of observed frequencies and the largest one, respectively. Moreover, three different sets of stars were found to cluster according to their frequency density distribution. Such sets are in apparent agreement with the asteroseismic properties commonly accepted for A-F pulsating stars.

- CoRoT and Kepler high-precision photometric data allowed the detection and characterization of the oscillation parameters in stars other than the Sun. Moreover, thanks to the scaling relations, it is possible to estimate masses and radii for thousands of solar-type oscillating stars. Recently, a {Delta}{nu}-{rho} relation has been found for delta Scuti stars. Now, analysing several hundreds of this kind of stars observed with CoRoT and Kepler, we present an empiric relation between their frequency at maximum power of their oscillation spectra and their effective temperature. Such a relation can be explained with the help of the {kappa}-mechanism and the observed dispersion of the residuals is compatible with they being caused by the gravity-darkening effect.

- This is the second paper in a series on large-amplitude delta Scuti stars intended to determine Baade-Wesselink radii and luminosities with precision. The first paper (Wilson et al., 1993PASP..105..809W) discussed our method of analysis and its application to EH Librae; in this we discuss the observations and analysis of DY Herculis. Optical and infrared photometry and cross-correlated radial-velocity data have been obtained and analyzed. Fourier representations for the UBVRIJHK light curves and for the radial-velocity curves were used to derive a value for the minimum radius for each of 60 combinations of flux and color index. From these we adopt a mean value for the minimum radius of R_min_=2.77+/-0.20R_{sun}_. When combined with effective temperatures from Breger et al. (1978PASP...90..754B), we find a mean bolometric luminosity of <L_B_>=21.70L_{sun}_ and a mean absolute magnitude of <M_B_>=1.41. The radial excursion is 0.149R_{sun}_. We use the same procedure to improve our results for EH Librae, deriving R_min_ for each of 42 combinations of flux and color index, and obtain mean values of R_min_=2.62+/-0.19R_{sun}_, <L_B_>=24.56L_{sun}_ and <M_B_>=1.27.

- We present an original way to detect variable stars in the Tycho photometric observations. A modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical test has been constructed, based on a model of most of the satellite's parameters, leading to the dispersion in the measurements. This allows us to build a treatment taking into account truncated detections and censored measurements, and to search for variability in the faint part of the catalogue. The selection threshold of variable stars has been calibrated to minimize false alarm rate. Reliable results were thus obtained for stars as faint as 11 mag. One thousand and ninety-one suspected variable stars have been listed, 407 of which are already known in Hipparcos, GCVS or NSV, and 684 of which are suspected variable stars to be identified soon.

This system exhibits transits consistent with three separate planets - a Super-Earth, a Jupiter, and a Saturn - lying very nearly in a 1:2:5 resonance, respectively.

- We present the first spatially resolved observations of a sample of 23 Mira stars simultaneously measured in the near-infrared J, H, and K' bands. The technique used was optical long-baseline interferometry, and we present for each star visibility amplitude measurements as a function of wavelength. We also present characteristic sizes at each spectral band, obtained by fitting the measured visibilities to a simple uniform disk model. This approach reveals the general relation J diameter < H diameter < K' diameter.

- We present the first edition of a catalog of variable stars from OGLE-II Galactic bulge data covering 3 years: 1997-1999. Typically 200-300 I band data points are available in 49 fields between -11 and +11 degrees in galactic longitude, totaling roughly 11 square degrees in sky coverage. Photometry was obtained using the Difference Image Analysis (DIA) software and tied to the OGLE data base with the DoPhot package. The present version of the catalog comprises 221801 light curves. In this preliminary work the level of contamination by spurious detections is still about 10%. Parts of the catalog have only crude calibration, insufficient for distance determinations. - We have investigated the diffuse interstellar band (DIB) at 661.3nm seen in the spectra of Cepheid stars. After removal of the blending lines of ionized yttrium and neutral iron, we determined the equivalent widths (EWs) of the DIB and used these values to investigate the E(B-V)-DIB EW relation. The relation found from Cepheids matches that found in B stars. This relation can help to find the reddening for newly discovered Cepheids without extensive photometric data, and thus determine their distances. The relation between E(B - V) and the DIB EW does not yield precise reddening values. It is not a substitute for better photometric or spectroscopic methods. At best, it is indicative, but it provides some information that may not be otherwise available. Defining R*=E(B-V)/DIB EW, which we consider to be the analogue of R=E(B-V)/A_V_, we investigated the Galactic longitudinal dependence of R* assuming that the DIB EW value is representative of the interstellar absorption A$_v$. We found that there is an apparent increase of the R* value that corresponds to the abnormal absorption seen towards Cygnus constellation. Finally, we constructed a 2D map of the DIB EW distribution in the Galactic disc basing on our rather limited sample of 253 spectra of 176 Cepheids.

- We report the discovery of a luminous F-type post-asymptotic-giant-branch (PAGB) star in the Galactic globular cluster (GC) M79 (NGC 1904). At visual apparent and absolute magnitudes of V=12.20 and M_V_=-3.46, this "yellow" PAGB star is by a small margin the visually brightest star known in any GC. It was identified using CCD observations in the uBVI photometric system, which is optimized to detect stars with large Balmer discontinuities, indicative of very low surface gravities. Follow-up observations with the SMARTS 1.3 and 1.5m telescopes show that the star is not variable in light or radial velocity, and that its velocity is consistent with cluster membership. Near- and mid-infrared observations with 2MASS and WISE show no evidence for circumstellar dust. We argue that a sharp upper limit to the luminosity function exists for yellow PAGB stars in old populations, making them excellent candidates for Population II standard candles, which are four magnitudes brighter than RR Lyrae variables. Their luminosities are consistent with the stars being in a PAGB evolutionary phase, with core masses of ~0.53M_{sun}_. We also detected four very hot stars lying above the horizontal branch ("AGB-manque" stars); along with the PAGB star, they are the brightest objects in M79 in the near-ultraviolet. In the Appendix, we give periods and light curves for five variables in M79: three RR Lyrae stars, a Type II Cepheid, and a semiregular variable.

- In the present work we publish new photometric observations of the very active single giant, FK Com for the time period between the 1st of January 2002 and the 8th of July 2004. The observations have been carried out with three different automatic photometric telescopes: Phoenix 10, Wolfgang and Amadeus, all located in Arizona, USA. Observations contain measurements at the following bands: Johnson U, B and V, Cousins I and Stroemgren b and y. The observations are differential photometry in respect to the primary comparison star HD 117567.
