- In the course of comparing parameters of evolved cool star plus hot main-sequence star binaries with theoretical isochrones, some discrepancies are found between implied stellar masses and the spectroscopic binary mass function or the measured angular separation. These are naturally explained if there is a third star in the system. Multiplicity is also required to explain some comparisons of "cool plus hot binary" IUE and optical spectral energy distribution analysis with measured flux ratios, especially Tycho's two-color photometry of separate components. Out of a sample of 136 cool-plus-hot binary star systems under study, measurements are now indicating several systems considered double (HD 5373, 23089, 26673, 29094, 49126, 71129, 149379, 179002, 187299), and probably a few others (including HD 136415), to have at least three stellar components. Several other cases of suspected triple systems are confirmed. For comparison, there are eight known triples included in the project. In all, about 25% of the systems contain three or more components within a few arcseconds. Estimated separations are provided, which may be of use when not known from interferometry. In general, the triple systems have one post-main-sequence component and two upper main-sequence components, usually revolving around each other. One new triple system, HD 149379, has as its middle component an F giant in the brief first crossing of the Hertzsprung gap.

- As part of a long-term programme, we analyse the evolutionary status and properties of the old and populous open cluster Trumpler 5 (Tr 5), located in the Galactic anticentre direction, almost on the Galactic plane. Tr 5 was observed with Wide Field Imager@MPG/ESO Telescope using the Bessel U, B, and V filters. The cluster parameters have been obtained using the synthetic colour-magnitude diagram (CMD) method, i.e. the direct comparison of the observational CMD with a library of synthetic CMDs generated with different stellar evolution sets (Padova, FRANEC, and FST). Age, reddening, and distance are derived through the synthetic CMD method using stellar evolutionary models with subsolar metallicity (Z=0.004 or Z=0.006). Additional spectroscopic observations with Ultraviolet VLT Echelle Spectrograph@Very Large Telescope of three red clump stars of the cluster were used to determine more robustly the chemical properties of the cluster. Our analysis shows that Tr 5 has subsolar metallicity, with [Fe/H]=-0.403+/-0.006 dex (derived from spectroscopy), age between 2.9 and 4 Gyr (the lower age is found using stellar models without core overshooting), reddening E(B-V) in the range 0.60-0.66 mag complicated by a differential pattern (of the order of ~+/-0.1mag), and distance modulus (m-M)_0_=12.4+/-0.1mag.

- The globular cluster 47 Tuc exhibits a complex sub-giant branch (SGB) with a faint-SGB comprising only about the 10 per cent of the cluster mass and a bright-SGB hosting at least two distinct populations. We present a spectroscopic analysis of 62 SGB stars including 21 faint-SGB stars. We thus provide the first chemical analysis of the intriguing faint-SGB population and compare its abundances with those of the dominant populations. We have inferred abundances of Fe, representative light elements C, N, Na, and Al, {alpha} elements Mg and Si for individual stars. Oxygen has been obtained by co-adding spectra of stars on different sequences. In addition, we have analysed 12 stars along the two main RGBs of 47 Tuc. Our principal results are (i) star-to-star variations in C/N/Na among RGB and bright-SGB stars; (ii) substantial N and Na enhancements for the minor population corresponding to the faint-SGB; (iii) no high enrichment in C+N+O for faint-SGB stars. Specifically, the C+N+O of the faint-SGB is a factor of 1.1 higher than the bright-SGB, which, considering random (+/-1.3) plus systematic errors (+/-0.3), means that their C+N+O is consistent within observational uncertainties. However, a small C+N+O enrichment for the faint-SGB, similar to what predicted on theoretical ground, cannot be excluded. The N and Na enrichment of the faint-SGB qualitatively agrees with this population possibly being He-enhanced, as suggested by theory. The iron abundance of the bright and faint-SGB is the same to a level of ~0.10dex, and no other significant difference for the analysed elements has been detected.

- The observations presented in table 3 were made by using the 1.03m Dall-Kirkham-type telescope (f/8.45) of Tuorla Observatory with a SBIG ST-8 CCD-camera and a standard V-band filter. Table 4 includes data (B-, V- , and R-bands) observed at the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) on La Palma. Corrections for dark-current effects, additive effects (bias) and multiplicative effects (flatfield) were applied. Due to the relatively small field of view of the telescope separate frames of comparison stars were exposed for Mrk 421 and 4C 29.45. For the other objects normal differential photometry methods were applied. Exposure times with the Tuorla 1.03 meter telescope were between 60 and 240 seconds for objects brighter than 16 mag. For fainter objects, we have combined several exposures to achieve a sufficiently high signal to noise ratio.

- We present BV(RI)c and JHKs photometry and low- and high-resolution spectroscopy of the 11th mag G-type star TYC 2627-638-1. Our investigation reveals that the target is separated into two young, early-G-type main-sequence (or late pre-main-sequence) stars, which are most probably bound and form a wide binary system. A substellar body orbits the brighter component as implied by radial velocity variations. The brighter component possibly also has a faint, later type stellar companion. Both components of the wide binary have clear emission cores in the CaII H&K lines and filled-in Halpha absorption, indicating that both stars are chromospherically active. Our photometric time series reveals clear but only a few hundredths of a magnitude amplitude rotational modulation, which is most likely due to cool starspots. Two distinct periods, near 3.5 and 3.7-days, are found in the brightness variations. Photometry obtained separately of the two components of the wide binary show that these periodicities belong to the brighter star. The fainter component shows a much slower light variation of about 0.3mag. amplitude. In addition, long-term changes in the brightness of both stars are seen. The spectral energy distribution shows a strong near-infrared excess in the fainter component of the wide binary.

- We present and discuss the ultraviolet (UV)/optical photometric light curves and absolute magnitudes of the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2011de from the Swift Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope. We find it to be the UV brightest SN Ia yet observed - more than a factor of 10 brighter than normal SNe Ia in the mid-ultraviolet. We find that the UV/optical brightness and broad light curve evolution can be modeled with additional flux from the shock of the ejecta hitting a relatively large red giant companion separated by 6x10^13^ cm. However, the post-maximum behavior of other UV-bright SNe Ia can also be modeled in a similar manner, including objects with UV spectroscopy or pre-maximum photometry which is inconsistent with this model. This suggests that similar UV luminosities can be intrinsic or caused by other forms of shock interaction. The high velocities reported for SN 2011de make it distinct from the UV-bright "super-Chandrasekhar" SNe Ia and the NUV-blue group of normal SNe Ia. SN 2011de is an extreme example of the UV variations in SNe Ia.

- We present multiwavelength photometric and spectroscopic observations of SN 2019ein, a high-velocity Type Ia supernova (SNIa) discovered in the nearby galaxy NGC5353 with a two-day nondetection limit. SN 2019ein exhibited some of the highest measured expansion velocities of any SNIa, with a SiII absorption minimum blueshifted by 24000km/s at 14days before peak brightness. More unusually, we observed the emission components of the PCygni profiles to be blueshifted upward of 10000km/s before B-band maximum light. This blueshift, among the highest in a sample of 28 other SNeIa, is greatest at our earliest spectroscopic epoch and subsequently decreases toward maximum light. We discuss possible progenitor systems and explosion mechanisms that could explain these extreme absorption and emission velocities. Radio observations beginning 14days before B-band maximum light yield nondetections at the position of SN2019ein, which rules out symbiotic progenitor systems, most models of fast optically thick accretion winds, and optically thin shells of mass<~10^-6^M{odot} at radii <100au. Comparing our spectra to models and observations of other high-velocity SNeIa, we find that SN2019ein is well fit by a delayed-detonation explosion. We propose that the high emission velocities may be the result of abundance enhancements due to ejecta mixing in an asymmetric explosion, or optical depth effects in the photosphere of the ejecta at early times. These findings may provide evidence for common explosion mechanisms and ejecta geometries among high-velocity SNeIa.

- We present our observations of SN 2010mb, a Type Ic supernova (SN) lacking spectroscopic signatures of H and He. SN 2010mb has a slowly declining light curve (LC) (~600 days) that cannot be powered by ^56^Ni/^56^Co radioactivity, the common energy source for Type Ic SNe. We detect signatures of interaction with hydrogen-free circumstellar material including a blue quasi-continuum and, uniquely, narrow oxygen emission lines that require high densities (~10^9^/cm^3^). From the observed spectra and LC, we estimate that the amount of material involved in the interaction was ~3 M_{sun}_. Our observations are in agreement with models of pulsational pair-instability SNe described in the literature.

- We present new Near-Infrared photometry of Type II Cepheids in the Bulge from the VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea survey (VVV) (Minniti et al., 2010NewA...15..433M; Saito et al., 2012A&A...537A.107S, Cat. II/337. We provide the largest sample (894 stars) of T2Cs with JHKs observations that have accurate periods from the OGLE catalog (Soszynski et al., 2017, Cat. J/AcA/67/297). Our analysis makes use of the Ks-band time-series observations to estimate mean-magnitudes and individual distances by means of the Period-Luminosity PL relation. To constrain the kinematic properties of our targets, we complement our analysis with proper motions based on both the VVV and Gaia Data Release 2.
