- We report the final optical identifications of the medium-depth (~60ks), contiguous (2deg^2^) XMM-Newton survey of the COSMOS field. XMM-Newton has detected ~1800 X-ray sources down to limiting fluxes of ~5x10^-16^, ~3x10^-15^, and ~7x10^-15^erg/cm^2^/s in the 0.5-2keV, 2-10keV, and 5-10keV bands, respectively (~1x10^-15^, ~6x10^-15^, and ~1x10^-14^erg/cm^2^/s, in the three bands, respectively, over 50% of the area). The work is complemented by an extensive collection of multiwavelength data from 24um to UV, available from the COSMOS survey, for each of the X-ray sources, including spectroscopic redshifts for >~50% of the sample, and high-quality photometric redshifts for the rest. The XMM and multiwavelength flux limits are well matched: 1760 (98%) of the X-ray sources have optical counterparts, 1711 (~95%) have IRAC counterparts, and 1394 (~78%) have MIPS 24um detections. Spectroscopically identified obscured and unobscured AGNs, as well as normal and star-forming galaxies, present well-defined optical and infrared properties. We devised a robust method to identify a sample of ~150 high-redshift (z>1), obscured AGN candidates for which optical spectroscopy is not available.

- In this paper we present the source list for three Chandra observations of the Local Group galaxy M33. The observations are centered on the nucleus and on the star-forming region NGC 604. We detect a total of 261 sources in an area of 0.2{deg}^2^ down to a flux limit of 3x10^-16^ergs/s/cm^2^, which corresponds to a luminosity of 2x10^34^ergs/s at a distance of 840kpc.

- This catalog lists the high and low latitude X-ray sources observed with the Sky Survey Instrument on board the ARIEL 5 satellite (UK 5) as published by Warwick et al. (1981MNRAS.197..865W) and McHardy et al. (1981MNRAS.197..893M). ARIEL 5 scanned the sky for 5.5yrs in the energy bands 2-18 keV with a time resolution of one orbit (100min approximately). The fields in the catalog list source name and up to three alternative names; the error box center and corners in decimal degrees; average, minimum, and maximum flux and their error; a variability code; identification; and comments.

- The third catalog of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) detected by the Fermi-LAT (3LAC) is presented. It is based on the third Fermi-LAT catalog (3FGL) of sources detected between 100MeV and 300GeV with a Test Statistic greater than 25, between 2008 August 4 and 2012 July 31. The 3LAC includes 1591 AGNs located at high Galactic latitudes (|b|>10{deg}), a 71% increase over the second catalog based on 2 years of data. There are 28 duplicate associations, thus 1563 of the 2192 high-latitude gamma-ray sources of the 3FGL catalog are AGNs. Most of them (98%) are blazars. About half of the newly detected blazars are of unknown type, i.e., they lack spectroscopic information of sufficient quality to determine the strength of their emission lines. Based on their gamma-ray spectral properties, these sources are evenly split between flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and BL Lacs. The most abundant detected BL Lacs are of the high-synchrotron-peaked (HSP) type. About 50% of the BL Lacs have no measured redshifts. A few new rare outliers (HSP-FSRQs and high-luminosity HSP BL Lacs) are reported. The general properties of the 3LAC sample confirm previous findings from earlier catalogs. The fraction of 3LAC blazars in the total population of blazars listed in BZCAT remains non-negligible even at the faint ends of the BZCAT-blazar radio, optical, and X-ray flux distributions, which hints that even the faintest known blazars could eventually shine in gamma-rays at LAT-detection levels. The energy-flux distributions of the different blazar populations are in good agreement with extrapolation from earlier catalogs.

- From 1999 October to 2002 August, 45 transient X-ray sources were detected in M31 by Chandra and XMM-Newton. We have performed spectral analysis of all XMM-Newton and Chandra ACIS detections of these sources, as well as flux measurements of Chandra HRC detections. The result is absorption-corrected X-ray light curves for these sources covering this 2.8yr period, along with spectral parameters for several epochs of the outbursts of most of the transient sources. We supply a catalog of the locations, outburst dates, peak observed luminosities, decay time estimates, and spectral properties of the transient sources, and we discuss similarities with Galactic X-ray novae. Duty cycle estimates are possible for eight of the transients and range from 34% to 2%; upper limits to the duty cycles are estimated for an additional 15 transients and cover a similar range. We find five transients that have rapid decay times and may be ultracompact X-ray binaries. Spectra of three of the transients suggest that they may be faint Galactic foreground sources. If even one is a foreground source, this suggests a surface density of faint transient X-ray sources of >~1deg^2^.

- We present the first extensive spectroscopic study of the global population in star clusters Trumpler 16, Trumpler 14, and Collinder 232 in the Carina nebula, using data from the Gaia-ESO Survey, down to solar-mass stars. In addition to the standard homogeneous survey data reduction, a special processing was applied here because of the bright nebulosity surrounding Carina stars. We find about 400 good candidate members ranging from OB types down to slightly subsolar masses. About 100 heavily reddened early-type Carina members found here were previously unrecognized or poorly classified, including two candidate O stars and several candidate Herbig Ae/Be stars. Their large brightness makes them useful tracers of the obscured Carina population. The spectroscopically derived temperatures for nearly 300 low-mass members enables the inference of individual extinction values and the study of the relative placement of stars along the line of sight. We find a complex spatial structure with definite clustering of low-mass members around the most massive stars and spatially variable extinction. By combining the new data with existing X-ray data, we obtain a more complete picture of the three-dimensional spatial structure of the Carina clusters and of their connection to bright and dark nebulosity and UV sources. The identification of tens of background giants also enables us to determine the total optical depth of the Carina nebula along many sightlines. We are also able to put constraints on the star formation history of the region with Trumpler 14 stars found to be systematically younger than stars in other subclusters. We find a large percentage of fast-rotating stars among Carina solar-mass members, which provide new constraints on the rotational evolution of pre-main-sequence stars in this mass range.

- Trumpler 16 is a well-known rich star cluster containing the eruptive supergiant {eta} Carinae and located in the Carina star-forming complex. In the context of the Chandra Carina Complex Project, we study Trumpler 16 using new and archival X-ray data. A revised X-ray source list of the Trumpler 16 region contains 1232 X-ray sources including 1187 likely Carina members. These are matched to 1047 near-infrared counterparts detected by the HAWK-I instrument at the Very Large Telescope allowing for better selection of cluster members. The cluster is irregular in shape. Although it is roughly circular, there is a high degree of sub-clustering, with no noticeable central concentration and an extension to the southeast. We estimate the total Trumpler 16 pre-main-sequence population to be >6500 Class II and Class III X-ray sources. An overall K-excess disk frequency of ~8.9% is derived using the X-ray-selected sample, although there is some variation among the sub-clusters, especially in the southeastern extension. X-ray emission is detected from 29 high-mass stars with spectral types between B2 and O3.

- We report the results of a search for binarity among young stars, performed in the Scorpius-Centaurus OB association on a sample of 118 X-ray selected T Tauri stars. We use speckle interferometry and direct-imaging observations to find companions in the separation range 0.13-6". After corrections to account for confusion with background stars and for the bias induced by the X-ray selection, we find a multiplicity (number of binaries or multiples divided by number of systems) of 32.6+/-6.1)%, and a number of companions per system of (35.2+/-6.3)%. This is higher by a factor of 1.59+/-0.34 compared to main-sequence stars, but slightly lower than in a sample in the Taurus-Auriga star-forming region that was selected and studied similary. In Scorpius-Centaurus, we find fewer binaries with nearly equal brightness than in Taurus-Auriga. There are significant differences between the period distributions in the two subgroups Upper Scorpius A and B: The peak of the distribution of stars in US-A is at about 10^5^ days, while that of stars in US-B is around 10^6.5^ days. We compared our results with the optical multiplicity survey of Brandner et al. (1996A&A...307..121B), whose sample contains 49 stars that were also observed by us, and find no infrared companions. The flux ratio distributions of close and wide binaries in our sample show no significant difference.
